expectation. The current x3 rule is explicit, it is clearly
defined. That doesn't mean that that it is intuitive. How is "120mm
always bounces, 122mm always penetrates" intuitive? I go
back to the example of throwing the ball. That is done intuitively,
even though nobody has a clue what the parameters or
characteristics are. Something which relies on known figures
isn't intuitive, it's analytical. 2) I happen to agree with
you on the concept of corridor maps, which is a different issue.
However, I had a think about the IS-3 hull-down 'over yonder'
problem, and it really does depend on what's shooting at it, and
from what range. I can think of a couple of Tier VIIIs which should
go through the turret roof with the revised mechanics if both are
on level ground. Yes, I believe if you look back, I
described Minotaur, after my first game in it, as having an ROF
better than a Des Moines, and a turret traverse rate better than a
Gearing. It is true that all those 3" turrets have no anti-surface
capability, but with the main guns as they are, I don't think
they're really necessary.

invalidate real life armor design... but thats ok because as
Wargaming occasionally likes to point out WoT is a video game and
if you want realism you should go join the army. No one
wants to rely on a bad game mechanic (arty) to help them because
its a worse RNG slot machine that an actual slot machine and
players (good players especially) are capable of realizing that
they need to maneuver to get better shots. I dont rely on the
overmatch rule to pen shots unless I have no other recourse (a hull
down IS-3 at the end of a corridor that I cant extricate myself
from, for instance). But in these new mechanics? The IS-3 is
invulnerable if is gun is pointed at me. 3. A few? Every
vehicle in the game from tier 5 and up is going to need to be
looked at. Thats more than a few. Its a bad change being
made for 3 or 4 new vehicles. This is a change I would have
expected to see being suggested on sandbox, along with every other
bad idea that was floated on that server. Youre introducing more
complexity in a place where it isnt needed. And until anyone
can explain to me how this new system is simpler than ">3x means
auto pen", Im gonna keep saying that, because if it looks like a
duck and quacks like a duck its probably an AMX-40.

the game before or looked up the rules can still get a sense as to
how it's supposed to work. The current x2 normalisation boost, x3
overmatch, and 'autobounce angle' rules are the sorts of things
which you could only know if you actually looked them up. Your
typical casual player who may know some basics about how tanks
work, however, will probably understand from the beginning the
general concept of "Armor works better the more it presents a
shallow angle to the projectile, while projectiles are more likely
to get through any particular piece of armor if they are bigger, or
more powerful than other projectiles." That's what the new rules
should put into effect. 2) Well, I guess you need to try to
avoid getting caught without support in a die-in-place position
against an IS-3 in future. 3) I'm not as convinced by that
as you are. Let's leave it at that, shall we?

eliminates the design purpose of thin, highly-sloped armor, and
encourages folks to make 'trick shots' at that armor which by its
very nature is designed to be tough. I mean, heaven forbid that
players should try maneuvering (or maybe relying on friendly
artillery) to deal with tough opponents instead of demanding that
they be able to magically punch through things just because their
gun is 3x the armor value on a small part of the collision
model (Or whatever). I have no doubt that after the first
change, the balance team will have to have a look at a few
vehicles. But if it's bad for gameplay, I shall wait and see.

who came up with the new mechanics. Mathematically, by the current
formula, that shouldn't be happening. Turns out that since that
video was made there was a coding change after they discovered a
value error, so we were unable to replicate the effect
with anything more than a 120mm today, but it's still wrong. (A .50
cal should go through it, mathematically). So, they're digging into
it tomorrow. (We've also discovered a strange effect with the M56's
collision model, which they'll be having a look at too). This is
why it's in testing, after all.

up nice and bright on a thermal imager, turbine exhaust or not.
Frankly, the 'really, really hot' bit is hidden behind the tank.
Or, at least, it should be if the tank commander remembers which
way the enemy's supposed to be. If memory serves, turbines
have more torque, resulting in faster acceleration.

the only announced change was to the autobounce system. Now the
autobounce angle will gradually increase instead of being
completely eliminated for shells that 3x overmatch and 70 degrees
for everthing else. The Strv103 UFP should be more or less
impenetrable on level ground since most of it is 50mm thick and
even ~150mm guns autobounce at 76 degrees (the UFP is at 79
degrees). The 40mm lower plate should be penetrable even to 100mm
guns though; it's at 72 degrees, and according to the diagram WG
posted a ~2.5x overmatch ratio results in autobounce at 74 degrees.
What I dislike about the system is that instead of an
exponentially increasing armour coefficient, the Strv relies
completely on the ricochet threshold. Even without extra
normalisation the actual effective armour is still rather flimsy
(e.g. 40mm @ 72 is still just ~100mm vs AP with 5 degrees of
normalisation, or ~115mm vs APCR with 2 degrees of normalisation).
This means that a 100mm gun might bounce 100% of the time at 74
degrees and pen 100% of the time at 73.99 degrees.

normalisation system. That said, looking at what I have on my
internal files, I'm looking at greater than 10 degrees
normalisation for that 100mm AP round example. Now, I do
know that that file is an iteration or two old, the ricochet
mechanic changed a bit, and I haven't been told the new system
yet. The normalisation system may have changed from what I have.
Or, they may have decided to leave it alone as it currently exists
while they see the effect of the ricochet angle change. But if it
is implemented, it's why I'm viewing the removal of the x3 system
as not necessarily resulting in things like the IS-3 roof or the
Batchat sides being invulnerable... So, I'm just cautioning people
to wait and see what the actual effects are before condemning or
responding with joy to the armor mechanic changes. I suspect folks
are working on less information than they think they are, and do
believe that the result will be 'intuitive'.

did not stumble across the magical page where it is stated that
tourneys are on East server.
As far as the time being obvious, how so? I understand that 16:00 is 4:00pm, but again, which time zone? Is it that hard to just say if you know? I don't know know if where the east server is located, and I don't know if this is based on where the server is located, or where WG does business, which I think is west coast.

dance210: Hi! On the tournament page, the time at the top is
always set to your local time. Down below where it says "Schedule"
under the "Rules and Regulations" we give the time in PT and ET.

The_Chieftain: I have to say, the New York event has turned out more major
than I had thought it would be. Unfortunately, the date conflicted
with my military duty, so I'm instead sitting in Reno. Yay. With a
fitness test tomorrow. Double yay. Today marks the end of
year 16 owned by Uncle Sam. Four to go, at least. Probably seven.
Depends on if I make LTC in the next couple of years. (Pension is a
good motivator)

policy is easier to recognize. It's the mods functions create an
unfair advantage, which is why you’ll see us talking about
functionality instead of specific mods.

and / or tank type will be added. It's been requested, but it's up
to the devs to add it. However, submitting a valid dispute
will disqualify that team so that they earn no points / earn no
gold. The dispute system gives us the flexibility to make different
tournament restrictions.

little heavy-handed/forced. The NASCAR commentary, for example. I
think that driver is going to get old, quickly. (Actually, he
already looked old). Secondly, what's the point of the Tour? They
go to California, and their featured showpiece is....filmed in
Portugal with three European cars. The crack about shooting down
the drone could likely only work in the US, that was about it. The
studio tent scenes may as well have been filmed in the front yard
of the old woman's home near the track. Watched with fiancee. She
only liked the car-related bits, really. The subtitles joke also
went a little arwry, she really wanted to know what the Belgian was
saying. Fortunately, I was able to translate most of it and catch
her up.

only person running tournaments for WoT. While there would normally
be Saturday tournaments, I have plans and will be gone for the
entire weekend, so other than the 1v1 there will be no tournaments
this Saturday. For anyone who does the 1v1, that also means that I
will not be around if any issues arise. Next week is
Thanksgiving, which is a long holiday weekend for the office. I
apologize for the inconvenience; however I have plans and will
be unable to run most of the normal tournaments during that week.
I don't like needing to cancel tournaments, but sometimes it
is unavoidable. Sorry guys!
