500.

Cinnibar, on Dec 27 2012 - 13:45, said: Well... it seems that unfortunately WG decided that the Sheriff bonus had to go. Not only does it seem they steered to away from Gold, the equivilant value is about 10% of what it used to be.
Was it because WG felt the bonus was out of line with the "Operation XXX" specials?
Was it because accusations were flying that clans were abusing the accounts for Gold/XP farming via click-ins and platoons?
Was too much money coming out of WG's pockets?
I am disappoint.

GeneralDirection: I pretty clearly stated that this is being done as a test. It is
not being done as a 'nerf' as you seem to have concluded long

Normally it is 500 gold which is enough to convert 12,500 excess xp on an elite tank into free xp. If we are getting 1,250 free xp then that is only the amount we could get by using 50 gold to convert xp.
The biggest problem with this change is that free xp is something that you can easily earn just by running tanks, but gold is something that not everyone has - free gold is great but I create twice as much free xp as that per day just with the 5% of the xp earned. This seems like a step backward to me.

GeneralDirection: No, it's not a typo. The free experience is an additional
reward--it's not experience you've already earned like when
converting with gold. If the reward is too low we'll look at it for
future Sheriff events, but it's not going to be a flat 1 to 1 ratio
in comparison with spending gold to convert.
