stabbymckill: Good Morning Tankers,
on June 15 the open test of Field Modification begins on the Sandbox server. This allows you to configure vehicles depending on their combat roles. Player feedback is urgently needed in order to better refine the concept for potential future inclusion in the game.

TONS of details on this one, so head over to the article here for all the fine print and information on how to participate!

Subject: Cap Gold Ammo Penetration Value
Link on message: #12850834
RickEdwards, on Jun 14 2021 - 03:24, said: Currently more mobile heavies/ heavies with higher dpm are strongly
preferred despite lack of armor over slower tanks with more armor.
The reason for this is that gold ammo makes that increased armor
obtained from trading away mobility/firepower mostly useless. With
the removal/nerf of gold at high tier, tanks with heavier armor
would be as competitive overall when compared to those more mobile
heavies, and in fact more competitive in certain scenarios, as
opposed to basically being as effective or less effective,
depending on the situation, as they are now. Of course, I
would say that those few tanks that have been added/buffed
specifically to be balanced in relation to gold ammo (Type 5,
Maus, Chieftain, 279E) would need to be nerfed/reverted to their
previous stats. But these tanks are so few that any argument with
them as a basis is pretty silly.
Link on message: #12850834

Draschel: Currently, mobile successful heavy tanks like Chieftain,
Renegade, object 260-277 are where they are right now, not because
of DPM. In fact, tanks like Kranvan, T57, 110E5, Super conqueror,
113 are out of favor despite no shortage of DPM, having
already considerably higher DPM than the first tanks listed. It is
because the first listed, they are very flexible, able to do many
things slow heavy tanks cannot do. Super conqueror is good, but
what is better? A fast super conqueror, with less weaknesses. Even
279E and IS7, despite the armor profile, isn't slow like IS4
or 60TP. Flexibility, above average qualities across the board, are
key. It is not for the reason of DPM. Of course removing gold
ammunition penetration favors extremely heavy tanks, but that won't
increase their flex and the ability to influence maps the way fast
heavy tanks do. Pardon me, but I am not sure you
understand how this goes.

RickEdwards, on Jun 14 2021 - 02:30, said: Capped as in the highest pen gold ammo of any tier is the
tier 10 standard of that line. I said that tanks under tier 8 would
basically remain unchanged... Very few of these tanks
you listed are actually hard to penetrate with normal ammo, and the
ones that are (Type 5, Maus, 279E, Chieftain) are ones that were
made/buffed after the gold ammo spam meta was firmly in place. They
are the direct effect of people spamming gold; WG won't release a
reward tank or buff a super heavy only to make it useless, so they
were forced to make them OP to have a chance to withstand gold ammo
because gold ammo is itself OP. "Nerf premium rounds" =
"make my armor not useless"
Link on message: #12850796

Draschel: Its not the tanks being hard to penetrate in laboratory,
flattened 50m conditions without obstruction. It is them being hard
to penetrate in most battlefield conditions you find them in. If
you cannot understand this, then you are lost. Tanks like Suka
Pershing, Tiger II, AC mle 48 can easily bounce standard 225-227mm
AP penetration in tier 8. But with the provided weak spots, if you
take the time aiming, you can even penetrate them with 175mm AP.
This is how armor started in the game, and this is how it should
be. Not armor models like Type 5 or Chrysler or 112, where
weakspots are non existent, or are too damn small for any sort of
practical distance and viability. If you think
armor is useless, to this day, you definitely are lost. Armor isn't
useless. Great players, tell themselves and live by, armor cannot
be depended on. Surely. But they know for certain it isn't
useless.

RickEdwards, on Jun 13 2021 - 18:30, said: So generally the biggest argument against a nerf of gold ammo is
that lower tiers need it to have a chance against higher tiers.
This is a fair argument, as a tier 6 against a tier 8 heavy
generally has little chance to pen without gold ammo. The
main problem with gold ammo, however, is at higher tiers, where
there are no tanks in the game that are 2 tiers (or even 1 tier)
higher. A tier 10 tanks does not need a special ammo with
higher penetration to penetrate tanks of the same tier; all having
such an ammo does is make armor literally impossible to
balance, as it either becomes impossible to pen
with normal ammo or the effectiveness of paper vs gold ammo.
I propose that the gold ammo of everything below tier ten
have its penetration capped at the normal ammo penetration of the
tier 10 of its respective line. What this will do is generally keep
everything tier 8 and down basically the same (with a few
exceptions like the Obj. 416's 320 mm pen gun), while nerfing or
removing the gold ammo of tier 9 and 10. Tier 8s and 9s will then
be able to use gold ammo to have the same penetration values as
tier 10s. This simple change would go extremely far to balance high
tier gameplay, which is essentially being dumbed down by rampant
gold spam.
Link on message: #12850745

Draschel: False. An extremely large component of the argument
against gold ammunition, are tanks with total lack or minute weak
spots, that in some instances are practically immune to same tier
AP. Minus the RNG dice roll, assuming average is thrown at it. This
is an extremely fair, legitimate argument, as tanks shouldn't be
totally combat resistant to standardized averaged AP levels on a
tier by tier basis. A tank needs higher penetration ammo
in high tiers, because this is especially the region at
which tanks without weak spots, or over-the-years
up-armoring takes place. I am not against gold ammunition
damage reductions, and making AP the more damaging round. But this
needs to be done immediately and in conjunction with heavily
armored tank armor model nerfs, and proper weak spot
implementation. Not one after the other,
simultaneously. I propose that if any gold ammunition
changes are to occur, proper tier by tier balancing of heavily
armored tanks and weak spot implementation follow suit, at the same
time. These changes, to all gold shells / armor models / credible
weak spots -> will go extremely far in making the game fair,
rather than just hating on premium ammunition itself.

105mm on ARLV, ARL44, M4 45 are the most common, and don't suffer
any drawbacks like SU100Y and ISU130 pen loss. However, there is
also the real idiotic, old as heck T40 tank destroyer. It has an
idiot low velocity middle gun, 3in AT, that can fire higher
penetration, higher damage HEAT ammo. The arty curiously, AMX 105 47
and 50, the tech tree 4-5, also used to be able to fire the same
ARL44 and ARLV APCR shells. But they were removed in SPG

Subject: Kp 07 RH verses M41 90
Link on message: #12850459
Link on message: #12850459
Draschel: They are different tanks. RH07 may have less HE pen, but the
shell travels considerably quicker with more accuracy. The tank
hull also carries much more ammo, M41 90 needs to carry enough HEAT
and AP. It also is way better attacking, because it has some armor
and M41 doesn't, HP, and more gun depression M41 90 on the
other hand retains camo while moving, has better view range, and is
considerably faster. It may appear RH07 is more mobile, but not
with its bad soft cross country stats. RH07 I see, compares
similarly and favorably to STA1.

the HE shot at the beginning vs Bisonte, wouldn't deal 84 damage
anymore and would likely be 0. Because of spaced armor. This is the
approach, to remove HE spam. However, the shot at the E75 that
dealt 0 damage midway through, if aimed slightly higher
at side hull and not tracks, would not deal 0
when 1.13 hits. This approach is to increase aiming, but
buff smaller caliber

ventilation in% spot = 465m VR. That is more than
enough and expected for a tier 8.5/1 RAAC doesn't have superb
gun dispersion like LIS, T44100, or RH07 but is decent.
Especially combining its shell velocity and overall
accuracy.Because of it, I do not think stabilizer is necessary, and
the benefits of rotator are better. It allows you to shift quicker,
as you are quite large.

most of the enemy team and still lose. Also losing light tanks
may hinder the teams ability for advanced scouting/spotting but I
hardly think the rest of the allied mediums, heavies, TDs and maybe

focusing on you and your damage, experience, and support for your
