The_Chieftain: You may want to reconsider that last post. Overmatch is still possible, but you will start seeing ricochets at x3 and greater.   Though I have half a mind to have not said anything, and just watch in amusement as 100mm guns bounce off an IS3 roof and so on while people try to figure out what's going on,

The_Chieftain: FWIW, a modern tanker holster is a chest cross-draw. It's nicely out of the way. Some of my crews used shoulder-holsters. Leg holsters absolutely do not work in a tank, I'm not sure what the British may have been thinking in the 1930s.

View PostAvalon304, on Nov 10 2016 - 23:27, said:   Im not concerned with how many lines of code it takes. Right now, from the information I have on the new system (which is only what is published on the website), they are complicating the system by both adding and exposing MORE variables to the player, compared to the current system.   My base prediction here is that this buffs tanks in unpredictable ways and [edited]the precarious balance we already have. People who play well armored tanks will love it until; WG has to come in a nerf things because the tanks are unbalanced. Tanks like the IS-3, which is already OP as balls, the IS-4, the IS-6, the Obj. 140 and others which all have roof overmatch shots are now going to become less susceptible to getting penned there.   So heres the 2 groups of people who will eventually be upset:   People who will eventually have their tanks nerfed because this change has [edited] something up.   People who think skill is important in the game.

The_Chieftain:   Let me try another route.   I give you a ball.  I tell you to throw that ball to hit something over there. Most folks will not weigh the ball, measure the distance to the target, assess the wind resistance on that type of surface, measure the crosswind, the rate of acceleration caused by gravity and then scientifically know with certainty what figures to calculate in their head to result in a known velocity and parabolic arc to hit that target.  If you think about it, all that calculation is rather difficult. They don't change their calculation method if ball weight in grams is three times the range to target in meters or use a third calculation method if it's only twice   Most of us, when told to simply throw the ball at something will simply throw the ball. And generally get it close if not on target.  Skill is still involved, but no conscious maths. Thus here.  You should get a feel for what is about the dividing line for any situation.  Better players will apply that feel better.

The_Chieftain:   You are confusing 'simplicity' with 'ease'. I didn't say that the new mechanics could be easily calculated in your head on the fly during a game. In fact, anyone who could do it is deserving of my respect.   Case in point. x(pi)*pi = ? It is a very simple formula. The same single forumla is used if x = 1, x =3, x = 6 etc. But if I asked you in the middle of a game to tell me "7(pi)*pi", I'll be surprised if you can tell me the answer. I'm sure you can figure out a general trend, but specifics, no. Such is the case here. You will be able to figure out a rule of thumb, but good luck staking your hitpoints on it. (And, yes, the formula is actually much easier than that, the trick is remembering the variables appropriate to the interaction)

The_Chieftain:   Actually, we're simplifying it. There are currently a few different equations which are applied in different circumstances. I've not been paying massive attention, I'm not sure what's public knowledge about the current system. We're reducing the number of equations involved. And, yes, we are well aware that a number of tanks are going to end up getting armor which is actually useful again with a possible resulting change in balance. Our big problem was the 4cm armor of Strv-103. With all the 120+mm guns a Tier IX sees, we had to do something.

View PostEmpressNero, on Nov 10 2016 - 21:52, said:   woah, wait.  Does this mean that "autobounce" zones might not auto bounce anymore?

The_Chieftain:   Technically correct, but I believe what will happen is that some impacts which currently don't autobounce will, and some which do, will no longer. From my interpretation of the reading, the armor will actually become overall more effective, but it's far more dependent upon what is shooting at you vs your level of armor. You won't be able to simply say "OK, I have more than a third his calibre in armor, and I'll angle 20 degrees and be immune" any more: There will usually be an autobounce zone, but you'll have to think about it.

The_Chieftain: It's more a reflection of the server population, I think. Folks just get out of Tier 3 quickly, Tier 4 doesn't take a massive amount of time either, but comparatively, Tier V takes a while to get out of. So lots of Tier V folks are hanging around, the lower tiers get dragged upwards.

The_Chieftain: If you look at the development history of T26, you'll see it was originally envisioned as a T23 medium tank with a 90mm insted of a 76mm gun. Part way through development, it was reclassified as a heavy tank, and then again, reclassified after the war as a medium.

The_Chieftain: Since the overmatch thing has been re-worked a bit in the SuperTest, and folks have started commenting, I'll say a couple extra words.   The current overmatch mechanics are very 'binary'. They either don't exist, they exist on the x2 basis, which greatly increases penetration chances, or they exist on the x3 basis, which basically ignores the armor entirely and can't ricochet at all. The change will involve a far more scalar solution, with the ratio of gun calibre (not projectile calibre) to armor thickness being applicable gradually, without those steps, resulting in an increase in penetrative ability in accordance with an increase in ratio, similarly ricochet angle also becomes variable, until finally a ratio is reached which results in an auto-pen.

GhostPrime: Older vehicles will still need a ticket to be restored. You will have to use an exception.    Players can restore any vehicle the player previously owned as long as they meet the following criteria: There must be records demonstrating ownership of the vehicle, and have at least one battle played. You must have a free garage slot for the vehicle to be restored. You must allow us to remove the credits received when selling the vehicle.   The policy can be found here; https://na.wargaming.net/support/kb/articles/513

View PostKilljoyCutter, on Nov 10 2016 - 15:07, said:   Preferential voting is an option, and has a lot to say for it, but might be too far too fast for the lumbering inertia of the American electoral system.   If I were really feeling ambitious, I'd make the primary fully open and let people vote for their top three candidates, and the top three "vote getters" would run in the general election.  Party affiliation would be ignored -- if three Democrats made the list, then those three Democrats would run in the general election.

The_Chieftain:   That's what we have going on in California right now, at least at the sub-Presidential level, and I think it's working well. It doesn't change the fact that we're sending a Democrat to the Senate, for example, but you now have a choice between the 'traditional', left-leaning Democrat, and a more moderate challenger. That moderate may get not only some of the D votes, but also a bunch of the Is and Rs who would pick him/her as the lesser of two evils.

View PostJarms48, on Nov 10 2016 - 15:32, said:   I'm hesitant to agree with the idea of the electoral college, anything that makes someones vote less equal than someone elses simply because they live in a different state doesn't sit right with me democratically. Not to mention the fact that electoral voters can vote against the people they represent. I'm all for any improvement, not that it'd affect me being Australian and all, but something that makes voting fairer for all Americans and improves political apathy would go a long way.

The_Chieftain:   It really does take a paradigm shift to understand it. Every voter has the same weight as every other voter in their voting pool. But the pool is the State, not the Nation. The man is the President of the United STATES, not President of the People Who Live In All The States Combined. The best analogy I've seen on an Irish board was to apply the thinking to the EU, and see how well the Irish would like it if their votes counted on a one-for-one basis with Germans and French.

View PostSomeone, said:   But they already ignore vast swaths of a the country because swing votes are just so much more important normally plus as best I can remember only 10 cities in the US have more than 1 million people.

The_Chieftain:   Well, to a point. California gave Clinton about 10% of her total popular vote, but pretty much a full quarter of her EC votes. If the Democrats stop paying attention to the cities, it could well backfire.

GhostPrime: The current explanation is in the news article and the list that is currently on the forums. We are still collecting concerns and feedback, and I will get clarification for you all. I unfortunately don't have a better timeline than "soon", and all I can ask is for your understanding in the meantime. Thank you for your patience.

The_Chieftain:   I don't think it will. Hatches tend to be just too damned thin to matter.

The_Chieftain:   With the increasing urbanisation of the country, I have the reverse view. It seems to be the only thing keeping smaller states (Fifty equal states, remember?) relevant. Notice how Wisconsin apparently didn't appreciate either being taken for granted as a solid blue, or not considered important enough for a visit by Clinton? The first major candidate to not do so in decades? I bet they'll care about that smaller State in 2020.

dance210: All active tournaments can be found by searching the Tournaments Home Page. Interested in what we having coming up? Check out the eSports calendar!  A player has two ways to register for the Platournaments! When you create the team, make sure that you are using the correct registration!Register as a Team! Registration works the same as normal. Team captain makes a team and recruits players to join. A complete team has 3 - 4 players. Captains do not need to submit their team; all teams with the minimum number of players will be accepted. The team is now ready to fight once the tournament starts! Register as a Solo player or as part of a Party! A party is a group of players that does not meet the minimum team size requirements. Create a team. Teams do not need to be confirmed; all players will be accepted for the Solo/Party Registration. Once registration has closed, the player will be combined with other solo player(s) and/or a party to form a complete team After registration has closed, players are encouraged to check back to find their new team!  So how do you register as a solo player? It's easy! When you create a team, there will be Registration Option with a drop down menu. Simply switch from Register Team to Register Solo and you are ready to go!

The_Chieftain: Just took a look at the proposed new overmatch mechanics. I very much like them. I think the idea, if it doesn't entirely mess up the game balance (it's quite significant) to get them in by the time S-Tank shows up. Of course, there's no guarantees of anything, but I think it's promising.
