Archives\Beta\Gold handout possibly ruining gameplay????
Link on message: #97030
The_Evil_One, on 01 September 2010 - 09:50 AM, said: Ever since that 5000 gold hand out I have noticed a significant
increase of heavy tanks in the game. It to me seems to have gotten
to the point where I think it is ruining gameplay. It has gotten to
the point where some of the teams I have been on are 50% heavy
tanks or more. Before it was modest with on average 2 to 3 heavy
tanks per team but now it's more like 5 or 6 per team. I am a heavy
tank person. I am good with heavy tanks and that is why I drive
them. I think that a good number of people get heavy tanks because
they want to be some kind of fortress on tracks that can kill
everything. I really hate that. I want to see a game of skill not
tons of heavies running around slugging it out.
Does anyone feel the same way about this as I do?

Link on message: #97030

ARGO: I for one will take a stand here and say that if any player is
unhappy or dis-satisfied with their 5,000 gold I will be more than
happy to take it off their hands to help remove that feeling of
guilt.

Zippy_z, on 01 September 2010 - 07:08 PM, said: Thats cool, I play in my Su 14, and that is my favorite thing to
do. Support a forward push into enemy territory and pick off the
defenders as they become visable. I've had a guy in a med tank just
move forward alone and have cleared a path of heavy TD's for
everyone to follow. You can win with only 1 loss if you do it
right. An extra, heavy arty helps a lot. The trick is to get ready
a little bit in front of the push, and when they pop up enemies,
you can fire within 1 second accuratly.
Arty is not easy. Many people end the map with 0 kills. Its not a lazer. Its a learned skill. When you get 2 pretty good arty on your team. Its over fast. It takes a great sense of prediction.
My favorite stories are about the scouts who do there job and go into the lions den to find enemy arty and heavy tanks when I ask them to. They dont last long, but its great when I can pick off all the arty or heavies that they discover. Little scouts can win the game.
Like when a guy volunterred to go scout after an enemy SU-14 that I could not find on my own. And it was doing real damadge to our team. He dodged and weaved around all the enemy tanks as fast as he could going deeper into enemy territory. I could not fire though. I needed to stay focused on that SU. I just kept saying GO GO GO GO! Everyone was shooting, he gets hit, he keeps going. Tracked, keeps going... Looking, looking all over. All the while the enemy team shooting everything at him. Boom! He explodes! They finnaly get him, right at the second he found the SU-14! You know I had that shell in the air that same second. Boom! SU gone, I can now go to work without worry and we clean everything up. What a scout, dont remember his name. Thats commitment to the team. He was pretty glad to see his mission accomplished right on the spot. I was glad I did not let him down. Thats what makes this game super fun. Skilled players working together.

weeks back when I was scouting in my PZIII, I always ask arty to
let me know when they are set up so I can scout arty for them...I
am a big fan of good arty.

someone showed there face, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Arty was all over him.
They really made it look easy and also made our win sweet.
Thank You arty for watching my six, I got your back too.
That's my story, let's see if you all had similar ones and it doesn't all have to be about arty.

Link on message: #96709
ARGO: I sometimes go back to recruits mode to play and look over the new
guys and I must say, Something really changes once peeps come over
to standard matches. This is what I have noticed all to much:
Glory hounding: Players make a mad dash for the flag completely leaving the arty to guard the base and fend for themselves. I can't tell you how many tanks I lost defending the base with no back up.....
Camping: They sit and stare at each other until someone deciedes to be the poor suicide tank and see where the other side is. Have you ever noticed when you are that tank how the arty seems to forget where you are?.....= meaningless death. Or worse, you just lit up the whole enemy base, your running around in circles waiting for the artillary fire that never comes and then before you know it your surrounded by they enemy and they do evil, terrible, horrible things to you......
The way I figure it, If your in a heavy tank, use it as such and go kick some rump. If your in a medium, stay with your heavy, your his eyes and his wingman, cover his six. Light tanks and fast mediums should be scouting / killing scouts or arty.
But most importantly, protect your base and arty If you wanna win, leave enough protection behind for your arty so they can punch holes in the enemy defense to get your rolling parade over to their flag and if need be harrass they enemy long enough for you to cap so you do get the dreaded draw or worse, you get capped and made a fool of by the last 2 tanks left cause you didn't cover your arse.

Archives\Beta\How does the Credit / Exp Ranking system work?
Link on message: #96547

Link on message: #96547
ARGO: Greetings,
I was wondering since either there isn't one or I missed it somewhere, a chart that explains how a tank is rewarded after a battle win or loose...
Example: Let's say your in a PzIII and you kill a A-20 then your team wins. Vs. Your in a IS and you kill an A-20 and your team wins. Or take the same above two scenarios and both teams loose but the two tanks still get a A-20 kill each. I am not sure but I do believe the bigger tanks gets more. And also, does this formula also apply to recruits battles as well?
I am trying to figure in to how all this works.....

MrVic: Whats your crew level at? Your crew levels effect your ability to
hide/spot enemies in hiding. Also they directly effect the stats
and abilities of your tank. So while you may have a 35 degree a
second traverse speed in a tank if your gunner is 25% it effects
the speed of the traverse. As you skill up your ability to
hide/spot and the bas stats of your tank so to speak improve.

merig00: UPDATED March 23, 2011
This is translation of instruction created by the members of the russian forum.
World of Tanks on AppDB: appdb.winehq.org
A new patch from winex - no mouse lags, all resolutions work.
Now the desktop is not emulated by default - no unneeded windows.
adjusted rights to start
new wine 1.3.16 - possible increase in response and support of new drivers\hardware.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Instruction for all distributives and extra lazy users
and also for those, that don't want to delete their wine or change its settigns
So download the archive
1 extract it in its own directory, the folder WoTFLIX will appear
2 enter it ( your home catalog, or the catalog where you extracted the archive to)/WoTFLIX/.wine/drive_c/Games/World_of_Tanks (you need to turn on hidden and system files in the settings)
3 copy there the client files (the content of the root folder with all subfolders). I don't know where you'll get that, but later, if needed, i'll upload a large archive with them. Or you can install in your wine and then copy them.
4 Start the game with a double clickicking WoTFLIX or WoTLauncherIX (or WoTX1, read about it below)
If you need to get into the settings of the built-in wine, double click .winecfg in the root and set everything there.
Download Link
How to launch in separate X
In the archive there is a script to launch in separate X.
Possible increase in more smooth and faster movement of mouse.
However before you launch in separate X you need to do what is being advised for game in separate x-server (google has a lot of info on this)
sudo dpkg-reconfigure x11-common- chose whoever you want or anybody
sudo gpasswd -a user_name audio- change name to the name of your OS user
chmod +x WoTX1- grant rights to launch
It is advisable to reboot after these two commands
After this the game can be launched on the separate server by double clicking WoTX1.
The possibility to launch on the server by default, by clicking WoTLauncherIX and WotFLIX, obviously still will be there.
Useful advices
- TeamSpeak perfectly works under Linux - www.teamspeak.com
- The problem with screesnot you can solve by assigning properties of window manager to some key combination, for example: import -window root ~/.wine/drive_c/World_of_Tanks_closed_Beta/shot_`date +%y.%m.%d_%H:%M:%S`.jpg (requires install of ImageMagick). Though you can use scrot, or whatever you desire.
