KRZYBooP: Howdy Boom Jockeys! During the countdown, these are some of the things I check for 30 seconds.
Where am I on the tiered battle list?      If I am on the bottom I know I don't wanna be the first to arrive anywhere. In addition, I wanna keep a lookout for any bad matchups that I probably won't win.Where am I going to go?     Checking to see what map I am on and where my tank will perform the best. Any other Tanks like mine?     I am not particularly spectacular at the game so I tend to follow tanks that are similar to mine in role.Loadout?     I am guilty of not using this feature mostly cause I only have one go-to build per tank role and not per tank. Do you happen to do any of the above before the battle starts? Is there anything you would recommend doing?

churchill50: The tumor definitely makes the M-II-Y awkward to play with, especially combined with the huge (and weak) side turret profile. However, even with that weakness, I found the tank fine. A little awkward to play sometimes, but pretty solid nonetheless.I dropped my DPG the last day I ground through it because I was having a bad day but chose to keep playing it (always a bad idea). But up to that point I was pulling 2.1k DPG in it, which is quite solid. And I'd much rather tanks have weak cupolas, rather than WG introducing more impenetrable hulldown monsters. We already have far too many impenetrable hulldown tanks in the game. We don't need more of them. As far as playstyle goes, try playing it more as a second-line or support heavy instead of a frontline brawler. Be hulldown when possible as that still makes it more difficult to pen you. But don't be the main focus of the enemy team. Let other heavies take the hits, while you support them. Also try to engage from mid-range where it's more difficult to hit your cupola. In the late game, provided you still have a good amount of hitpoints, you can start playing more aggressively and trading your hitpoints away for more damage + the win. Also, I hate to tell you this OP, but if you hate cupolas you might not like the Yoh line. The tier 8 doesn't have a huge cupola, but the tier 9 has 2 big ones. And the tier 10 has a cupola that's not very difficult to hit, as well as being pennable in the turret supports.

churchill50: I used the T-34 and T-34-85 to learn when I first started out.I got to the T-34, got the 57mm gun, and loved machine-gunning people in it, so I put a ton of battles into it.Then I got the T-34-85, and loved the all-round feel of it. I had other tier 5 and 6 tanks by that time, but I didn't like any of them as well as the T-34-85. Once I had put a ton of battles into both of those, I kept moving up the line. Besides the horrendous stock grinds, they were great tanks to learn the game in. From there, I branched out into some other meds and heavies, then tried my hands at lights (although it took a while to get better at them). Took me a long time to really get into TD's though, since they can be so awkward to use and most can't be used aggressively (and I LOVE aggression).

KRZYBooP: Howdy Boom Jockeys! As many of you may know or not know, I am a big fan of Artillery. It has seen many changes over the years, and I have stuck with it through it all. Mostly cause it is one of the classes that I have the most fun in and can learn the most about the maps. In the really long time, it takes to reload those Arty rounds and make sure my tank is fully in camo, I look at where the other tanks go. I know that there will be a day when I will get the itch to play another tank class.
What did you do to learn the game when you were first starting out? Do you have any favorite tanks that you always fall back to as a favorite?  Have a wonderful Tuesday!

View PostWings_That_Work, on Jan 31 2022 - 22:05, said: So....   Do you live in your mom's basement?   It was funny back in my Call of Duty days, my cousin (who was one of the top players) actually was living in his mom's basement at the time. So when people would say that to him, I'd laugh a bit. Course, he was going to law school at the time, and his long time girlfriend was living there with him (I don't think they were married yet). Also that basement has a full bedroom, a full large bathroom, and a living room area. Basically the whole basement was the size of my current 2 bedroom apartment. They stayed there for a while even after he finished law school and got a job with the county prosecutor's office, and they were definitely married by that time. He now owns his own house.   What am I saying? Nothing wrong with living in a parent's basement for a while to get a head start on life. They had dual incomes with no rent (his wife is a nurse). The number of trips they took while living there was just crazy: Europe, Australia, all over the place.   Does staying in a basement make him or his family "losers" like people try to portray?   Well, his dad is a retired school principle, his mom is a retired school teacher, he's a lawyer, and his brother is a surgeon. When my cousin was looking to buy an office building for his private practice stuff, out of the blue he asked his surgeon brother as a joke if he could borrow $20,000, thinking he was going to get a "ppft yeah right" reply. He brother's actual response was, "when do you need it by?" Didn't even ask him what it was for, lol.   They're doing something right.

Draschel:  whatever I tell you, your answer can simply be, ''you are lying.'' That is how the internet works. But this guy, was having a conversation with me and can see what I did in battle. And can see what my service record shows over the last 10 years of play. He can see it, there is no lying. And his commentary, exhausted and illogical, reverts to personal attack. Things that CANNOT BE SEEN. If something cannot be seen, why believe it? Its human nature. By the way, whats to stop me from simply saying to him, ''do you live in your moms basement?'' Nothing. But thats why I don't say such things. I talk about what I see, and performance thats expected. Not useless, meaningless toxic cheapshots because the person has no integrity. And sure, your response to that can be, ''But hey Draschel you [edited], you aren't revealing to us what actually happened.'' Sure enough, valid. But that doesn't change the position of the argument, this happens all the time to others. A debate is lost, because there is absolutely nothing to pertinently debate, and the one failing lashes out with what he thinks is a means to end the conversation or trigger the opposition, a personal attack.  Nothing can be more truer, than don't hate the player, hate the game. Because that is what we are all here for, the game. You know, in the real world, such an underhanded, vile tactic to say such slanderous things can get you sued. Or even harmed, by saying it to the wrong person, in the wrong state of mind. But on the internet? Talk is cheap. anyone can talk. But meaning, results, well these are different. These require effort and thought.  I work. I earn. I live 4,200km away from my parents basement. I pay my taxes, also complete and submit them too. I own a re-hashed Dakota. I pay fuel costs and car insurance, telephone and wifi utilities, power use, rent on 1,000sqft apartment, groceries, and I try to help out my GF with costs as she isn't as fortunate with her earnings as I am. I buy PC parts. I buy world of tanks premium goodies, when I win 30% off discounts, which because being top of the team and number 1 certainly isn't hard, those come often. But what does this mean to you? Nothing. It is as believe able as saying, I am the Queen of England. Because you can't see any of it.   and PS. Calling someone a try-hard is an extremely loathsome, defeatist comment. When someone says try-hard, what they mean is they lost fair and square and are trying to be snide, and not admit defeat, but instead seek something cliché to blame. A person, himself, can ''try'', ''hard''. But someone has no right to call him a try-hard

Jaguarz: Amount of battles played is literally the worst metric you could possibly measure someone by there are people with 100,000+ battles who add less benefit than an afker, you disregard actual metrics of worth for number of battles, is this some kind of meme post? Because you stop playing and wont help your side if facing people with more battles? I hope people are reporting your behavior because its you screwing over your team not Wargaming or the MM.

Jaguarz:  Wheres the fact? If the player isnt spotted then you arent having the information sent to you so no mod will do this and if they are spotted the same result is achievable by using eyes. I have seen similar behaviour as described in one frontline game where I and my target were both lit and he moved at every twitch of my gun while looking at another tank but Im at a loss as to where arty factors into this.

Draschel: i would like to point out, when I see people perform really well in battles, I take the opportunity to study it. I save all games in replay folder. I take a keen look, a gander. I see where they went, what kind of positions they used, their problem solving process. Alot of it is guesswork and extrapolating, but it certainly can be pieced together. I learn from it, to be better myself. Thats what the game's all about, to better oneself, continuously. Just the other day, I saw Lemmingrush in battle. No kidding, haven't seen him release a youtube video in a long time, but it would be awesome if he's back. Playing T-50-2 in westfield of all things, and near 2k damage in a game?  lol.  You learn from this. you don't accuse people. I don't throw a hairy canary and message people with harassment, calling them red-line tent-pitching farmers. Because.....people play well and they played the game? Wth kind of attitude is that.

Or is it bugged such that one can get around it by using the button on the service record? I mean, if it were bugged in that way, I'd think I'd have heard about it?
Bragging about your WR and all your 3 marks from an alt?.. anyways..since neither your account nor the replay is available, and this is clearly a rant thread..
Well, if the rant has calmed you any, consider the following paragraph. Not sure how well it applies, because lack of info, but it may be helpful to you as an outside perspective. If the rant hasn't, the it might upset you more, so you might want to skip it. Note, it assumes that you care about winning as much as you can, so if you don't, again feel free to skip.
How often do you get accused of damage farming anyway? If it is often enough to get you as upset as it seems to, maybe you should re examine your play and see if, even if you're winning more than you're losing, you aren't leaving wins on the table. Or maybe it triggers you because somewhere on a not entirely conscious level you're aware that you're missing wins you could have had. If so, perhaps now that it is in the forefront of your mind you can start fixing it, and get some of your chill back (which in and of itself will help your play, as playing on tilt or otherwise upset is not conducive to top performance..a problem I run into too often myself).

Draschel:  Which means its off? [o] receive messages only from contact list.     the guy wasn't on my contacts[ ] accept new friend requests   New friend requests are disabled, and automatically decline Regardless, the person can still go to Service record by performing a contacts search bottom left. And within service record, bottom right open private channel. Which bypasses I am not sure about the extent of Contacts still bugged. Parts are. I can read certain people on my black list using side-bar chat, but their text is grey and faint, not the typical template highlight white text. I also have people on my friends list that I never accepted, nor even know, that I remove manually.  I did not brag. I proved a point. You know all about ranting and spewing. You still haven't shown me a single sit back and farm account that loses more than winning. Guess what, I checked Panther, ISU152K, Charioteer, S1, SU130PM, Skorp, Strv 103B, K91PT, WZ120G you know the lot, commonly complained over as sniper schnitzels. When we discussed 'damage farming' recently. Only panther had guys beneath 50% and 7k PR, and it was a couple. Only a handful of the others were beneath 2.5k average, and under 55% from the others, over 10month period. That means something. Procuring damage wins battles. More than it loses them.  Wins aren't important. Sole contributions one makes, are what is important. A win can be spoon fed. But contributions, aren't. Those need to be sought after and achieved. Whether a team of 15 wins or not, that is something I alone can't control ultimately. But I alone CAN control the assistance provided, damage caused, distance travelled, and blocked I chip in an team effort.  I get accused alot. Daily. Generally for the same thing. Generally for whats not understood. For something, apparently you have trouble understanding too. How often do you get accused? Of not maintaining 3k damage in a tier X, for example. That seems to be a commonly understood benchmark these days, for people to achieve. Don't you like achieving? Or are you satisfied with your best, packing up and finished with 2.4? How very 2014 of you. You know I even looked, before you start going off about damage farm this or damage farm that. My tens seem to manage 800-900 assistance. This is double what you put out, in what you do best (110E4, 705A, 60TP)  So whats that exactly, a damage farmer, assistance farmer? I ''help'' the team too much? You are one of these, that just does not understand. Maybe if I marked T69 though, I would get through to you.

Draschel: whats the most common definitive toxicity. I think there are two major camps here, attitude vs skills and ability. A sub par performing, casual player is slighted, irritated by jerks, rudeness, attitude. A competent, competing player out to achieve goals, gets triggered by imbeciles, incompetence, blunders, inability, daftness.  Before entering what happened, a disclaimer. I know I have bad attitude, and to avoid losing my temper over witnessing stupidity, I have chat turned off and anonymizer, and have the setting to automatically decline sent messages. The person manually, went to my service record, to open up a message box through the bottom-right corner.  So I lost a battle, but in the process considerably over-performed in assistance and damage caused. According to what I was driving, the situation I was in, odds against me, disadvantaged map side, Etc. 1st on the post-battle report. I use exp-gained by the way, not damage caused. And after the game, I was on the receiving end, the usual mouthful of distasteful commentary, the usual contemptuous stuff. ''red-line camper''   ''all you do is sit in the back''    ''damage farmer''  As part of clan that I know runs comms, I politely ignored what he had to regurgitate, and instead asked for the opportunity to come into his TS and describe what happened. He said fine. I went on, and briefly described the usual stuff; ''alot of my damage I spotted myself''   ''the post-battle report says only 2 shots of damage were beyond 300m, you exaggerate that I was red-line sniping''   ''I net alot of assistance as well, not just damage caused''   ''l blocked some, so it means I too was shot at''   ''my tank wasn't a very capable one, yet I competed at an excellent level, why aren't you pissed off at others, in better tanks, that didn't compete?''   I of course, also clearly reminded him, ''to take a look at the service record, stating I try my best to win more often than I lose, and I do. I have an upper percentile win rate, I have many tanks 3-marked, and a huge list with ace. Yet, you seem to struggle winning more often than you lose, and only have 1 tank marked. A low tier too. Why is that?'' And a moment after the response was,  ''dude I am not a try-hard that lives in his mom's basement, I play for fun'' You know, I get it. Calling someone the r----- word isn't nice. Very skilled players are commonly seen as ''holier than thou'' and obnoxious. And that sure, is toxicity. But they have the respect to keep it tied to the game. What happens in-game, should stay about the game.I don't know about you, but to immediately get the retort like that, ''you live in your mom's basement'' is the worst toxicity of all. The person ignored results and logical explanation, clearly seen results - ran out of things or didn't have things left to say, was ultimately disproven like an episode of myth-busters, and had nothing to do but insult a person's personal life. This is prejudice, ignorance, slander. That they know nothing of, nor can they see it. The worst toxicity of all.

churchill50: First off, the T95 has about twice the T30's base camo (18.18/10.89 stationary/moving vs 9.18/5.53). Base camo is usually based off of the height of a tank + modifiers based on class + whatever random stuff WG wants to do. Second, whether you have camo on your tank, and camo skill on the crew will influence that. Remember that the camo skill is averaged across your crew (so if you have a 4 man crew with 2 crew members who have camo at 100% and 2 that have camo at 0%, you'll get 50% of the effectiveness of the camo skill). Using food and BiA also increases the effectiveness of the camo skill. Although, at the end of the day, who cares about the camo on the T30 and T95? If you're not brawling with them 90% of the time, you're doing it wrong. They're not sniping TD's.

Like the old T34 heavy, but balanced with when it does finally fully aim in, the shot is accurate.  From personal experience, and many agree - dispersion values are more important than accuracy + aim-time. Many people complain about the horrific derp-shot tendencies of tanks like Grille, Skorp G, Hellcat - and simply its because the atrocious dispersion control. Whereas tanks like 430U and IS7,  -feel-  unnaturally accurate despite their mediocre listed accuracy, because of decent dispersion.  I don't think 114 is in need of help, it is fine. It is just weird, that is all. if it did get something, I'd say 180mm for the cupola and 80mm hull side armor would be fine. For Strv, I think all it deserves are 810 horsepower engine and 45km topspeed

Draschel:  okay, I get that bonds store, season end bonds auction can put a hamper on the work placed into getting oneself into competing clan, and ultimately being upstanding enough to acquire needed fame. Bonds store still cost 16k. But as far as I can tell, would not you rather place with a good clan, and spend 4k bonds rather than have to dole out what were figures previously seen, 38k in an auction after season? While doing so, the fame also gets you boosters, camo, packs, bonds too? And isn't the auctions after season limited to people who somewhat participated in certain amount of season battles anyway? And that is increasing with the next I believe but does this kind of skill we are mentioning here, really bother you? This is convenience, not unlike premium account. You are getting something, far easier than someone else is, cheaply and with perks. This bothers you? By the way, true skill that should be the only form of the word we use, is someone like you dealing 3.2k DPG in it. Not the tonne of people I see with it doing no better than super conquer in it, struggling with 2.5k

Bonds Gun Laying Drive on WZ-114

Draschel: I certainly think stabilizer and rotation mech are more important than gun laying drive on this thing. But gun laying drive is better than aiming class. It doesn't need more accuracy. And the bonus to dispersion that aiming class does give, is way too tiny small to be noticed on something with 0.33/0.33 gun handling. Additionally, gun layer comes with bonds version, not just bounty.  Stabilizer > rotation mech > gun laying drive > aiming class   for the tank. Also one of the few tanks I'd choose firepower slot instead of mobility as heavy. for 2nd equipment spot. For stabilizer

Draschel: The more I take a close look at 114, and see reviews of it, the more I think its actually fine. I would not say good, but not bad. -you got the HP of mauschen, tied for tops tier 9, and actually more than quite some tier X heavy-despite superheavy HP, it has mobility stats of STI. Certainly faster than Type 4 and Mauschen-horrible dispersion stats, horrible aim-time, as arta. but best in class 'med' accuracy, tied with conqueror-the LFP 'weakness' is exaggerated. its as strong as Phase, Concept, 705 LFP pretty much. Its fine.-AP pen is typically 20mm over most peers AP pen. Humungous velocity too, good alpha. While 122TM and T34 heavy aren't exactly good tanks, they aren't bad tanks either. 114 mixes up both of them So far so good with the tier 9 premium tanks. Strv and 114 are balanced, as premiums should be

Draschel:  what are you talking about. object 268 V 5  DPM and RoF is right in-line with DPM of tanks like object 268 V 4,  T110E4. Don't be silly As per 114, DPM isn't its goal in life? It has 2,300 HP. HP of mauschen. Thats more than many Tier X heavies.

This isn't meant to be an insult, but rather to prepare you furtherYou are not performing at a sensible contributory level, you need to improve more first.Gain more experience concerning how things function in-game. I'd suggest staying tier 6 for now.Devote time to youtube and look at guides for fundamentals. Plenty of content creators to seeDo tiers 4,5,6,7 tournaments, and even if you place 2,3,4 the prizes can stack over time. With your earnings, buy tier 6s like Rudy, Pudel, T3485M, Skoda T40, Cromwell B. Grind these, while learning. The point of all this, you will build a healthier garage infrastructure, and be prepared better in the future.

Draschel: bonds vertical stabilizer and bounty rotation mech are better choices. Bonds Aiming class isn't too necessary because the tank is already accurate. But if you got the bonds gun layer (laying) around it isn't bad.

Is a "Cast Hull" better?

Draschel: The first mass produced method of fastening plate, and constructing hulls was riveting. And it was cheap. Even with the extra cost of material needed for bolts, washers, nuts still cheap. But the major flaws are the blocky outcomes, and rivets when struck or compressed, don't act too favorably. And even can be dangerous too inner crew, turning to be a form of fragmenting shrapnel when violently, quickly impacted. You see this with dreadnought ship design, boxy tank designs (Japanese for instance)  Casting came out, to really simply structural design with molds and vats. This simplified production, and allowed for more or less standard sizes needed getting formed. It was fast, and the skill in labor required was less needed, shortened times. But though casting can fulfill production quotas, there were issues that were quickly seen. Casting process causes, leaves behind granular imperfections. Such as specks, scabs. These need to be grinded out, if not turret jamming could result. Proper fastening may not be done also, if these specks and scabs interfered. Crew injury could result, such as cuts and lacerations on jagged imperfection not noticed.  Another big issue, was the propensity to 'split' along grain. The cast, acting very uniform and complete as monolith, once struck violently at high velocity produces tears and splits far larger than imagined would be otherwise the result from impact. Welding has advanced a long way, and produces heat treated tensile seamed metals and/or composites. It is the superior arrangement for armor protection. But it takes time, it costs more, it is labor intensive. Not only that, the training the welder needs and must have far outweighs a production operator typically needs found in manufacturing. A factory joe can produce within casting facilities. But a technologist is needed, certified for welding. But the benefits of welding remain, it cracks less, bonds and alters metal favorably, Etc.  Metal stitching is another more modern process introduced in oil assembly, manufacturing, repair industry. It is generally much akin to riveting, but doesn't typically leave outer structures and fastening visible. This method then, is slightly superior. It can be done in areas unlike molten casting and welding, where environmental / adjacent heat sources, sparks SHOULD NOT be allowed. Like areas around oil rigs where this can be dangerous, industrial gas stations, or farmer equipment repair where methane is nearby. It is also useful, for when heat stress from welding, actually weakens the types of materials and metals. Metal stitching isn't used often in military, aviation processes, so not much is known for impact stress and tensile strength, but it so far performs fine warding typical industry abrasion.

I know the soldiers didn't have a choice, but what if?  If my butt was in it, I don't care about cost. I don't care how long it took to make. I care about quality and survival. Looking at the Pawlack HT and other "Cast Hull" vehicles, well, I don't know. Anybody that gets into, or has gotten into, a tank and went to war is way braver than me. I'm a Pilot and if I had to go, my first choice would be to fly. The Navy and an Ocean? Running around out in the open with a gun in my hand? Say what? Those Drafted have my deepest respect. God bless them.

Draschel:  But this isn't the way things worked in world war I and II. It may certainly be the case now, but  'now'  doesn't involve situations of total war, rather small scale conflicts and proxy incursions. In small scale conflicts, what you want is complete, swift and decisive armed superiority with all available advantages and advancements, to carry you through with minimal casualty for the public and media to portray. In addition, small scale conflicts are generally prompted against parties, without advanced technological means and equipment to conduct sensible warfare to begin with. This leads to protracted guerilla warfare in many cases, which armed forces and newer technological advances can struggle with because that isn't their fundamental design. They are also too, rigidly held accountable to rules, while simply guerillas aren't. But in total war? Producing 7  T-34 and M4 medium tanks is superior to producing 1  M26 Pershing or IS or King Tiger. Sure, at 1,500m anyone 1 of those can destroy the 7 in advantageous position, but this isn't always the way warfare follows through and what armies need. Armies need equipment for infantry support, for conducting breaches, for garrison defenses. 1 tank can be 1 place, but you can place 7 tanks in varied locations, OR have them acting all in unison. Can a brand new state of the art exhibitory export Challenger 2E trialed for middle east countries, demolish T-72s made 40 years ago? Yes it can, and will, in droves. But these T72 can be very easily upgraded with atmospheric environmental range sensors, defensive laser warning receiver, defensive outer reactive block armor, thermal and CCTV sights, laser range finder and ballistic computer, data management and communication suite, and modern Russian/Serbian ammunition to basically change into a dangerous opponent. Especially if there are hundreds. To upgrade a tank with these components, off an existing frame, is drastically cheaper than building a new Challenger 2E model. In addition, these vehicles are also lighter making them less of logistics nightmare. A brand new T14 or T15 Armata, can easily destroy new Abrams Sep 2,3,4 models in service but based off of 1979 design. But what good is that if a handful of what Russia has, like 2 dozen meet thousands of reasonably fit Abrams? Conflicts, well technology and advancements seem to pay off. But in terms of conducting large scale warfare, quantity with at least moderate ability seems so much more useful, deployable. What would happen with a total war scenario? Well we do not know, because we haven't had them since....I am not sure if we would label Korea or Vietnam or Iran-Iraq conflict as wars, but its the closest we have had since WWII.

Draschel: generally, in a sense of commonly used, and advancing military doctrine, what can be certainly seen as cowardly maneuvers are opted for superiority in armed forces. Ranks of levied men in breastplates, round shields, spears - its advantageous for you to maim them and then their ranks with shower of ballista and crossbow bolts.pikeman and light cavalry, it is advantageous to blast them from afar, with lines of muskets using consecutive volleys.guerillas trying to terrorize, wielding machetes, well its natural for armed forces to hunt them down with rifles.partisans that do get second rate guns like old bolt actions and pistols, its natural for armed forces to hunt them down with automatic fire and body armor. organized guerillas with AKs and RPGs fortifying urban locations, it is natural for armed forces to flush them out with air ordnance, laser guided munitions, Etc. A submarine attacks a fleet of surface ships.  all of these can be seen as cowardly. But its the way simply militaries advance and get better at what they are budgeted to do

Draschel:  Sure.  But cowardly, in the context of escaping a flank, and dooming team mates there to die why you live to fight another day, can be seen as most cowardly. Leaving your postIt can be seen as cowardly, a light tank or pesky TD like Hellcat/E25, taking a forward observer spot amongst bushes and staying there spotting. Cowardly, in the sense of not fighting straight on with foes, and using sleuth tactics such as max view range, bushes, allied distractions. Cowardly, in the sense that in bad situations in fast, sneaky tanks you flee and force draws instead of fighting it out. While I admit, your example of being a coward, is very bad to have - the ones posted above are certainly cowardly but very good to have

Draschel: Cast hull is easier, cheaper. It terms of better, better is subjective. Better in what? Cost? Production? Having cast hulls makes metallurgy simpler, mass production and factory assembly cheaper, than welding. But welding is superior in terms of hardening process, fracture toughness, and tensile strength.
