Subject: When to move vrs when to sit still
Link on message: #8305695
Link on message: #8305695
Lert: Do you have good shots on enemy tanks? If not, move so you do. Do
you see another flank needs bolstering, on the minimap? If so, then
move. Are you being shot at? Move. Sitting still is passive
play. Passive play loses matches. The only reason to sit still is
if you know someone is coming for you to take a shot at, or you
have a shot. That said, don't just move for movement's sake.
Have somewhere to move to. Have a destination. Have a plan. The
moment you're sitting still, start asking yourself "Is there
something I could do instead?"

intelligent questions asked. As for you not having the same issues
with your IS-8, I strongly, strongly doubt that. 979 DPG and 1496
average damage taken per game? Yeah, you're losing credits on that
as well. All my points stand. Instead of accusing the entire
WoT community of being immature haters just because you don't like
what we're all saying doesn't automagically make you right, you

demanding WG adjust their game to compensate for your own

Subject: Expensive Tanks
Link on message: #8303256
Link on message: #8303256
Lert: Thoughts? Ok ... Stop whining and think for a moment.
High tier tanks are meant to be expensive. WG is a for-profit
company and they have to encourage their customers (IE, us) to
spend our money on them in some way or another. Promoting premium
time increasing credit income and premium tanks which make
additional credits is a very non-intrusive way. Hell, you could
easily get away without paying for premium, if you keep a few lower
/ mid tier tanks around to grind credits on, so you can continue to
play as a freeloader while other people ensure that the game stays
online for you to play for free. Or, you could improve your
play to the level where you don't lose credits on average in high
tier tanks. You average less than 800 damage playing average tier 8
average, a tier where tanks have 1300 to 1500 hitpoints on average.
Every time you click that battle button, you force other people to
carry your weight, because you don't even average your own
hitpoints in damage. The better you play, the more damage you do,
the longer you live, the more battles you survive, the more credits
you will earn. Thoughts?

straight line. That's definitely how you get unicum recent
stats. The_Chieftain: If you've made it to unicum level stats, then evidently
you've managed to figure out how to keep getting killed by arty
(and everything else) down to a reasonable level. The
comment about trying to hit moving targets stands. Arty players
need to anticipate far enough ahead that they have time to zoom
their reticle in, not a problem they have with stationary targets.
It's not just moving in erratic lines, it's where you're moving to.
Case in point, I recently hit an STB-1 with my T92 which was
disengaging from a superior force. Not a direct hit, just close
enough to track him, which set him up for my colleagues. After the
match, I sent him the replay file as there was some disbelief that
I could have hit something moving in the manner he was. I was
aiming so far ahead that his tank didn't even enter my
fully-zoomed-out screen for about four seconds. The catch was that
I took a pretty good guess as to where he was heading to, and aimed
there. I could have guessed wrong, in which case nobody would have
noticed or complained, but the final destination seemed pretty
obvious to me, thus giving me the time I needed to zoom in enough
to at least get close to hit him on the way there. It is
certainly true that heavier vehicles are easier to damage with
artillery. It is not, however, true that heavier vehicles have to
play XP Pinata all the time. Although a T95 cannot prevent itself
from taking artillery damage, it can prevent itself from taking
-significant- artillery damage most of the time, thus basically
playing the 'tank' role common to MMOs. A maneuvering T95 with
spall liner, all repair skills and toolbox can prove quite
survivable for a good while as it takes a couple hundred points
every forty seconds. The arty is going to be focusing on
-someone-, you may as well use it to your team's advantage.

out, I didn't say that the key to winning was a fast cap. I
said that the key was to force the fight to happen around the cap
with overwhelming force. This sometimes results in a cap victory,
but usually not. But it's the threat of the cap victory which
forces the killing fight on your terms.

Subject: Shooting Past Tanks When Your Barrel is Sticking Through Them.
Link on message: #8301641
Link on message: #8301641
Lert: Because of latency between your client and the server. Also,
a shot comes out of the gun mantlet, not the end of the barrel. If
a target was stationary and you put a gun through him, the muzzle
sticking out the other side, your shot would hit the tank. You
missing in this case is a function of latency. Try playing
with server reticle. This shows where the server believes your gun
to be aiming post-latency, rather than your visual model on-screen
pre-latency.

Subject: A question about Clans
Link on message: #8301603
Link on message: #8301603
Lert: Some clans are just for casual people wanting to play and have fun.
Some clans want to dabble a bit in strongholds and team battles,
and anyone in that clan needs at least some tier 6 or tier 8 tanks.
Some clans are clan wars clans, and require their players to not
only have 4+ tier 10 tanks, but also possess a certain amount of
skill at driving them. And some clans are really hard core
competitive play clans that require 12+ tier 10's and incredibly
skilled players.

Lert: The problem is that your MS-1 won't earn XP that you can actually
use on your NC-31 and Loltraktor without you spending gold to
convert it. That's the difference between tank-specific XP and
'free' XP. Free XP can be spent on any tank, tank-specific XP only
on the tank it's earned on. So, yeah, while your MS-1 could
fund upgrades on your NC-31 and Loltraktor and FT, your MS-1 won't
be able to unlock those upgrades. And your NC-31, Loltraktor and Ft
will earn enough money to fund their own upgrades to begin with.

Lert: At this low amount of battles I would recommend spreading out your
grinding, going up multiple lines in multiple nations. This game is
not a race to tier 10, it's what happens while you play.
Spread your wings, see what nations and what lines fit your
enjoyment and playstyle best, figure out your identity before
dedicating yourself to one line. There is no hurry. There is
no grand prize waiting you at the end, and the higher up the tiers
you go, the more experienced your opponents and the more powerful
their tanks. If you want to sit back and read up on game
mechanics (which I wholeheartedly recommend!) there is a link below

The_Chieftain: You are making the mistake that the shell dispersion circle
represents nothing but the inherent dispersion of the shell coming
from the barrel. This is obviously incorrect: It's not as if that
dispersion value takes 2-3 seconds to settle down after the vehicle
stops. The circle represents a variety of things to include
something as simple as the gunner settling down on his lay or just
the 'human element', as if hitting things were just as simple as
'put dot on target' and let shell dispersion do the rest, then
every gunner in the US Army would be scoring distinguished.

maps, you MUST flank, you MUST be able to hit the enemy who is
trying to cap from every direction. The first team to cap on

in an encounter battle if you go for the cap, and only one way you
can lose. That one way to lose is that if you get killed. All
fifteen of you. And if all fifteen of you are massed together, if
you manage to lose the fight against anything other than the vast
majority of the enemy team, you bloody well deserved it and your
strategy had little to do with it. The two ways to win are that you
manage to kill all fifteen enemy vehicles, or you cap the enemy
out. If you go with the first option, then it doesn't matter where
on the map you kill all fifteen, it can be at the cap, or at the
other end of the map. If you cap out, then that's something that
can only happen on the cap side of the map. Which is rather
dramatically helped if the enemy team doesn't try for it and is
instead swinging its punch at some empty space the other end of the
map. Since 'mass' is probably single most important factor in
determining who kills whom, why not mass at the cap? Where's the
downside? Flanking in most encounter battles is
impossible unless a team allows it. Ensk, Erlenberg are two
exceptions given the location of the cap circle near the middle.
People seem to have this bizarre conception that your 'front line'
is a line which faces the enemy's startpoint. For example, your
flanks are the East and West sides of the map in Steppes encounter.
And, by common consensus, 'flank' on that map means 'West'. I refer
you to Ender Wiggin's concept of "The enemy's gate is down", it's
all about perspective. If all fifteen of you have gone East on
Steppes, ROFLStomped the half-a-team (or usually less) of enemy
that actually went to the cap, and set up on the ridgeline facing
West, where is your flank? Your flanks are now North and South. And
the half-team (or more) which is coming at you from the West is now
coming straight into your front line, while you're holding lovely
defensive positions facing West. (If you've sense, again, go heavy
North). Finally, for the love of God, don't defend on the cap
itself. Engage the enemy before they get into LOS of the cap, be it
Himmelsdorf or Steppes. It's not about the capture, although it
works. It's about the threat of capture which forces the enemy to
attack and get killed piecemeal. The problem is that too
many people in random battles (company battles tend to be a lot
more reliable, for some strange reason called 'teamwork' ) are
convinced that they must engage the enemy in irrelevant places on
the map. There's nothing in the West of Steppes except rocks and
bad guys. There's nothing on the hill on Himmelsdorf except a
castle and bad guys. And bad guys with nobody to shoot at don't
affect you. They can keep the rocks or castle.
