If you go check the Medium tanks at tier 6 and 7, you see that the german mediums are far better then the Russian and american ones. Having better armor, sloping at armor, slightly better guns suited for mediums and more health, while only having slighlty less speed and acceleration then the Russian/american ones. I tried them all out, so i know what i am talking about.
More examples are the tiers 4-5 SPG's. The grille is like the SU 14 at those tiers, while the hummel has the best accurate gun (with M41) and least aiming time of the 3. While having completly better speed, mobility, acceleration and ammo amount then the other tier 5 SPG's.
Yet do you see ANYONE saying that those vehicles are overpowerd?
Balance problems in WOT exist, but there are minor and only to a few vehicles per faction.

make a new one for you to see hopefully.
Performance numbers are useless, especially during the beginning of tanks being released and such. How long does it take to change things that need changing? It shouldn't take very long at all. You edit a couple of numbers and release a patch. Then... YOU LET THE BETA TESTERS TEST. Shocking idea, I know but maybe we could try that for a change. People are complaining that the numbers are wrong because... they are wrong. You shouldn't be trying to change numbers to make every tank be able to kill every tank. If you need a better explanation as to why, feel free to ask me. Just listen to me when I respond.
How would you make a poll that isn't pre spun?
Don't think that just because you're a mod you can't troll people, it seems you've been doing it a lot. Your constant smileys can't hide what you really think.

those are mmos that have been around for years. This is still in
beta and a comparison is not adequate, takes time to achieve
balance and perfection is not the issue here.
And yes all mmos and betas have balance issues but usually are very random as to where the imbalance falls and there is no trend to it. Every mmo I have played has had a OP healer or tank or dps ant some point, usually every faction has OP classes. I’ve never heard of an mmo where one faction has OP tank, dps and healer. At the same point in time.

MrVic: Aye all games after release and forever have to balance, its just
how it works. We'll see things rise and fall as each month
passes.
As for the Tanks dps healer part... we don't have those but I get your reference. What you have have to look at tho, is in most games your listing such classes
Those classes are universal in abilities and available gear ect Ork Tanks are based on the same system as Elf Tanks. So to have a OP tank you end up with the class
being OP across all factions. So the impact is almost never limited to one faction since the factions have the same skill sets and gear options.
In WoT each tank in a way is its own class. They all perform differently. Granted some are of similar ability but overall their unique. So getting a few in one faction
at not a big deal, its stated its known and we now just wait for what they plan to do, once they figure it out. Making a good move to not disrupt the balance will take some time. I have some faith they will come up with some cool solutions

f2k, on 09 January 2011 - 01:20 PM, said: This, unfortunately, just proves my point...
75% of players responded that they felt that they prefer Russian tanks. And yet, you immediately twist that by saying that it’s just .29% of the players responding, thus invalidating the entire poll.
Yes, it’s a very small sample size and it’s taken from an uncontrolled group of players. But that does not mean that it’s invalid. In truth, it doesn’t mean that it is valid either, but that’s one of the big problems with statistics...
In any case, this highlights why you need to talk to your players.

MrVic: You say performance numbers are useless, all I can say is thats
wrong on so many levels. Also as I stated player opinions do not
cause the changes they are what flag you to a possible issue. So
they are useful and they do lead to changes, they give you your
starting point and your frame of reference when looking through the
data. The data is part of the checks and balances to ensure that
your not changing something that is truly not out of balance. As
Overlord stated about the IS-7 and the IS-4 both have some issues.
So Player opinions said so, they verified in the data, they are now
looking at solutions. What part of that does not sound like a good
idea? Why complain that numbers are wrong when their supporting
what you want to see change? I am really confused here...

MrVic: Yes I stated it, since it was twisted to begin with
Also I never stated it was not an
important number. Actually said the opposite, given my break down
of it was showing the truth of it nothing more since it was "pre
spun" prior to my post.
Let me show you again
You said "75% of players responded"
Thats incorrect and its a spin of it. I pointed out its 600 players
(this is a important number its accurate honest) The 75% of players
would be 150,000 voters, when it was only 600. Spinning was done on
the other end I just pointed out its frame of reference. Again 600
people is important boosting your number with a 75% blanket claim
just makes you seem like a troll.
Also why do you care you stated yourself numbers are "utterly useless" So you like numbers when they benefit you it seems

Let me show you again

There is just section for "MBT" and Tanks in game.
There is no section for older tanks that are not in the game, or other weaponry like scout vehicles etc..
When the new forums come online there will be an appropriate section for them then.
In the mean time, I'll move this to offtopic.

Archives\Beta\Suggestions\A suggestion for the red line getting stuck problem
Link on message: #353532
ArmsAndLegsGuy, on 09 January 2011 - 08:33 AM, said: The Developers have been working on it afaik, and I have noticed
that if you are able to get up to speed either forward or reverse,
and then gently tap the left or right key, at some time either your
front or rear end will get a small angle to the red line, and
thereby allow you to get free.
A better solution though, if possible, would be to make the red border "sawtoothed" in 45 degree angles. If it is in a sawtooth pattern with a quarter of the shortest tank's length, no tanks would be able to get stuck along the red border line, without a way to get free.
Sorry for the freehand MS-Paintbrush skills (or lack of same). But this graphic should give an idea of what I mean.

Ofcourse, this wouldn't work on the buildings, the railroad cars or any of the other objects with long straight lines. Another solution needs to be found there.
A&L-Guy
P.S. I would have posted this in the suggestions section, but alas I don't have enough posts yet, to do so. If a kind moderator would like to move my post there, I'd be much obliged.

MrVic: Your still polling only .29 % of the population, I can say the same
thing
Lets say 80% think US tanks are the
best 10% say Russian Tanks 10% say German Tanks. We pick 600
people. 75% equals 600 people say Russian tanks are overpowered.
Thats 600 people out of 20,000 ones that think Russian Tanks are
overpowered. Even at 1/3 split the odds over getting 600 people is
not all that hard in a pool of 66k players. Regardless those that
feel there is no imbalance are less likely to go to the forums to
state as such. Its the basics of Public Poll statistics, those with
a more negitive response will post or submit feedback more often
and in larger numbers then positive feedback.
Regardless I am not saying its an unimportant number in anyway, just commented due to the 75% of testers part. Where as its only 600 testers of 200k. It was posted kinda of skewed manner
Regardless Overlord posted in regard to some of the russian tanks, you should be happy, but instead you kinda threw it back at him. Just confused me since its something most would be happy to hear (75% aka 600 people) at least

formulating game balance, but as I know as I have done enough
university level statistics to know that many cases you have people
who arent trained or minimally trained in statistics interpreting
numbers and missing the entire sub text of the stat. All I have
seen posted on this board as reasons for game balance changes are
just that completely out of context statistics. So far I dont see
the stats improving underpreforming tanks though instead we got
buffs to the IS-4 which is arguably(IMO) the best tank in the game,
and we have seen no serious talk from the devs on what is wrong
with what are generally considered the underpreforming tanks.
You are right also in that the more variables that you add the more difficult it becomes to balance and interpret stats. Yes general tier setup is decent and semi well balanced. Though there are some stand out tanks on both sides of what you could call the balanced line very little of any of the changes since I started 5months ago have dealt with those issues at all. Though if you get into the balance on multiplayer FPS or RTS there is a lot more to balance then you would think easily as much this game if you want to do it right.
If anything what would help the devs most other then just a blanket "more well written posts" statement. A little dev input on how they would like us to tackle(get into specific stats, etc?) the OP/UP tank issue would be useful as well so that we can put it in a format that will get discussion with the devs without turning it into another Russian Bias thread.

MrVic: Oh I know they other games have lots to the balance but most are
quite a bit fewer in variables. With the ballistics engine in this
game alone calculates effective armor thickness based on the angle
of shot taken, also with varying levels of protection due to armor
front/side/top/rear those variables create a much larger balance
problem. Most other games the person/unit you control has less
variables based on location. Even hit boxes for arms/legs/head are
much simpler. In WoT with modules and armor facings instead of a
chest shot you have a chest shot with a shattered rib and a
punctured lung
All games are very hard to balance, WoT I think has a monumental task in doing it here due to the situation.

MrVic: Yeah holidays are rough times, plus we got a TON of stuff right
before the full holiday swing. I think next week we'll be back on
track info wise
We look to be heading in that direction but until its confirmed we can only hope
The devs it looks are working on
some neat changes, we just have to wait a bit and see what they
come up with

published in the forums means less then nothing. It’s all derived
from the win/loss ratio which in itself, due to the extreme number
of variables, is reduced to a coin toss at the moment. And any data
that derives form a 50/50 base statistic it will round up to +/-
50%, Hence the appearance of balance.
Here is the poll by the testers, no mater how you spin that 75% of us cant be wrong. If we're here to beta test please consider our opinion. We are the future customers in the end of the day not some super AI bots who will change their playstyle to match your statistics.

MrVic: Just some fun with numbers
"75% of us" 593 votes, Probably 200k
accounts EU side (I think its actually higher). So if my math is
correct that poll represents 0.29% of the population EU side. Plus
it looks as tho the devs are on top of some changes in regards to
some of these concerns.

posts in this thread.
The problem with balancing on pure statistics is they are easily mis-interpreted as we are all human it is very easy to not realise that just one forgotten variable can skew a whole statistic till it is nothing more then junk. Like using win ratios of a tank they are 1 of 15 people that is mostly likely a conglomerate of all the different factions so even if one tank is OP over time its win ratio will tend towards neutral as they are matched with tanks that maybe underperforming.
Honestly if you just keep talking to us like you have in this thread you will see a lot of the frustration dissipate.

MrVic: Statistics create a base line to go from. A truth so to speak.
(things go deeper then win/lose) So players impressions and
opinions guide you to an area to investigate in the Statistics.
Thus you create balance. The balance and under performing tanks it
all works out in the long average, and only does the main tanks
performance matter if its moved away from the under performing
tanks in the balance. So once this happens the statistics pick it
and probably player opinion. Then more changes are made.
hehe really its a kinda of paradox in the world of balancing anything
Actually was thinking the other
night, Most FPS, RTS ect only have a handful of values to balance
units, World of tanks have tons of varying guns and weapons,
combined with varying terrain and modules, with even more varying
speeds turn rate and armor/armor facings.
Its shocking with this many variables we have pretty well overall setup tiers.

-regarding the M103
Not saying the armor is great - but simple numbers without considering angles doesn't help.
Think all of the IS-4, it's not the pure armor thickness, it's the slope as well.

MrVic: Yeah its the one thing that makes the 103 nice is the slopes, the
effective armor is listed based on flat plane shots vs the slopes.

MrVic: I think you need to re-read it, I made no claim to any balance
issues that may be present or presumed. Mainly looking at some of
the reasons people want something changed.
Actually mentioned nothing in regards to this is better then that or nerf this or change that
