Medium Tank T26 (Heavy Tank T26E1) was set out by the Director of
the Production Division, Army Service Forces in a memorandum
dated 10 July 1944, and a meeting in Detroit the following day laid
out plans for increasing production of M36 and also converting 187
M4A3 medium tanks into gun motor carriages in order to make up
for a shortfall in production capability." In a nutshell, they
simply needed more 90mm SPGs, and that was the way to do it. I
haven't encountered any reports on the use of the B1, nor was I
particularly looking for them. And... "The Wright required
the change to a front sprocket configuration, using the M7’s
controlled differential, and also a hump in the hull rear which
limited depression in that arc and also raised the silhouette of
the vehicle a little. On the plus side, the move meant that the
vehicle could be 5” shorter. It was anticipated that in the long
run that the radial would be withdrawn from use, and replaced in
production by the Ford V8, but there was some abundance of caution
in TD Branch at this point and it was decided to wait and see if
the Armored Force decided that they were satisfied with the engine
in the tanks before installing it into their premier TD."

The_Chieftain: Personally, I think it's also an empathy crisis and a lack of basic
human decency and respect for life. One of our more famous WoT
streamers (I don't know if I'm permitted to identify) was shot
walking down the street with his GF for having done nothing but be
in the wrong place at the wrong time: Apparently it was a gang
initiation. People are getting shot for 'dissing', for wearing the
wrong clothes, or for a set of $300 trainers. Killing others in job
lots just to make the news and go down in fame. We are
celebretizing these folks. We are simply bringing up our future
citizens to not care about someone else's life. Change that, and
the firearms won't be a problem.

The_Chieftain: I think it may also be worth noting that there may be a difference
in the points of various unions. The ones which give a bad
name are similar to the ones Killjoy has mentioned. Those where it
seems that the only purpose of the union is to negotiate (or demand
at the risk of strike action) better pay/conditions, and to make it
very difficult to fire folks. However, some unions are also more
like guilds, in that they also take it upon themselves to teach the
trade and set and enforce standards. A bit more like, say, a State
Bar Association. They still have political clout, whilst performing
a useful service to all parties, both the employers and the
employees.

Strategic necessity needs to keep it open. There are two ways of
doing this, one can either buy more tanks than needed, creating a
larger reserve including things which can be given to allies, or,
say, the Japanese method of deliberately slow production, which
dramatically increases unit cost, but reduces resource expenditure
and block obsolescence.

applied to the XP earned in battle, and not just Base XP Applicable
to any Win, Loss or Draw Applicable to any vehicle x5 does not =
+500% Only applicable to Base XP addition. The formula to calculate
this is as follows: Base XP + x2 + x3 + x4 + x5 Only

it was bundled with In sum, more XP will be earned with the booster
in Wins for the one hour it is active than you would earn with

"But hang on a second at over 500 meters the light round loses
penetration and the 75mm is still better" so the 57mm fell out of
service not because it was foreign but because it did not work."
If you had followed up after that statement stating that
they ended up being incorrect at the time and the 6pdr was a better
hole puncher in the end after the fact...

publicly. Unless one wishes to read fully prepared printed
statements, which are boring as all hell, minor inaccuracies of that
sort are inevitable. The root gist of it was that the 75 was
believed to be the better round for TD use.

but I find it curious about the quotes related to 6 Pounder vs 75mm
M3 penetration reports (or, paraphrased from you) stating that the
75mm was either equal to or superior to the 6 Pounder at ranges
beyond 500 yards. According to British trial reports there was
absolutely no range where the 75mm was superior to the 57mm- not at
point blank, not at 2000 yards, not at any kind of angle. Perhaps
this was due to the poor performance of American 57mm ammo compared
to UK ammo? If anything by 2000 yards the 57mm APCBC is actually
superior to 75mm APCBC. If you compare the earlier AP shots (6
Pounder AP vs M72), the weight advantage of the 75 only really
benefits over the 57mm at ranges over 2400~ yards.
I know this might be the case of internet bolt counters and number crunchers versus real circumstances- but sometimes it has me headscratching- at short ranges (>700 yards) the 57mm has some massive advantages in penetration. It could, for example, "semi"-reliably penetrate Tiger I frontally, and with APCR or APDS it could do so at a broad set of angles and range. It really makes me wonder if it was worth, for example, converting ALL Cromwell tanks to 75mm, and rather have some retaining the 57mm for anti-tank duty. The 6 Pounder did get a HE round later that performed acceptably.

The_Chieftain: My filing system sucks, but this one is easy enough to find
on my hard drive: It's part of the letter General Bruce sent
recommending changing from the 57mm T49 to the 75mm
(eventually-named) T67.

Quemapueblos: Tankers, Firstly let me apologize for the delays in fixing
this issue, with software problems tracking down and fixing
them can often take much more time than anticipated. We
have a micro patch ready for deployment that should fix the
problems that appeared with Crews and Orders in Personal Missions.
We have set up scripts to remove or items that should not have
been credited or are missing (crew and unused orders), this
will start working after patch deployment tomorrow. Personal
Missions will be reactivated once the scripts have run - we
hope to be able to do this tomorrow evening. Please note that we
cannot promise an exact time until we have seen that the issues
have been resolved. To apologize to you for this disruption we
will be crediting 1 female crew member + 1 free order to
all players. The server restart is planned for:WoT NA

that could be improved upon.
The T14 stuff kinda annoys me atm but then I have been reading the British Army Staff (AFV) Situation Reports which paint a very different view on the T14.
76mm guns were also to be on Tanks in very very small numbers initially and when Denvers comes back from North Africa these numbers go up but most of these 76mm guns went to TDs and not Tanks... It would not be until months later that they get redirected to Tanks. Again at the Sit Reps...
The Tungsten issue is BS... According to the Canadians who were told to STOP producing so much Tungsten.
Turret transverse is complicated. The Panther D has fairly good optics in terms of field of view but poor transverse. Where as the A and G and F have the transverse but the optics field of view for the gunner is narrower. Now according to the British figures for the optics and comparing it to the US optics on the M4. The D model is comparable. Where as with the A G and F it got narrower and iirc the magnification got higher. Now US optics were continually being upgraded in magnification and improved field of views... as well as better gradients on the optics themselves to make it more user friendly.
Source: British WO Intel Files on Germany. And Sit Reps 1-10 (July 42 to April 43).
I would list more stuff... but I am sure others would want to list things.

The_Chieftain: I don’t know what the British view of T14 was, but the
US test reports are pretty condemning. I have not seen
anything discussing the relative allocation of 76mm guns between
TDS and M4s, but the documents listing the raw numbers of M4s
clearly state that the intent for the 76mm Quick-Fix turrets was to
have a thousand of them for the invasion of North Africa.
Tungsten... may be BS, but that is what was reported. Are
those optics comparisons referring only to the US direct vision
telescope, or also including the combination periscopoc sight?
