Archives\Beta\Official Hard/Soft Wipe Discussion Thread
Link on message: #359963
Draconas, on 11 January 2011 - 07:21 PM, said: Overlord, few quick and hopefully painless questions.
1. Any word on matchmaking tweaks? there is no huge problem here, however seeing some games with 3 t-44 vs 3 tiger 2's 90% = victory for tiger 2's, more balance of high tier mediums would definitely solve this, arty and heavy balance are pretty good.
2. You have mentioned the sight/firing/camo system posed a serious problem and would be addressed, is there any word on pre/release implementation of this?
3. I see you are starting on french tech tree, now by the your earlier posts i'm not sure if it was made clear if french would be out with release, can you confirm/deny french coming out with release?
4. While you have said beta gifts were under discussion, my question is slightly different, will there be a package available to beta/players in general for gold purchasing in first month or so of release? While many beta players might feel frustrated about the wipe issue, i believe some incentive package might help quell some of these, any previous discussion on this topic?
5. Finally, you have said that February 2011 is to be estimated release of WoT, are there any plans to enable a sort of continual game mode with numbered re-spawns or separate objectives (retrieve the spy/assassinate the dignitary, etc) in the near future?

Overlord: 1. No news on match-making adjustments currently, need to get and
assess the data first. For sure, there will be improvements.
2. Planned rework of visibility system requires game engine modification. At the moment we are not ready to share any information on that.
3. No, we won't manage to finish French line in Q1. Lowe, Pz 38 NA, KV-5, KV-13, and US TDs are possible, but not French vehicles.
4. I'm totally sure our guys will devise something. Prior to Russian release there were 5 packages with fixed amount of gold and bonus tanks (Pz V/IV, A-32).
5. At least two game modes are being worked on at the moment. Assault - one team is to defend the base, the other one is to capture it. Domination - there is one base in the center of the map and both teams are to capture it. Current maps will be reworked and adjusted to suit these two plus new maps will be added.

JocaTrica, on 10 January 2011 - 12:36 PM, said: I'm sorry if this subject has been already brought up - I couldn't
find any thread specifically mentioning it.
So... as far as I know, historic IS-85/1/2 tank went through several modifications during its lifetime, one of which was improving frontal hull armor in 1944. However, this is not reflected in game, although it should, because this change meant much better protection and increased chance for ricochet:
Let me to picture it better...
pics
Since I find it quite hard to believe that the devs just forgot about this, I suppose there's some good reason why we're not given a hull upgrade for IS. Engine limitations?

Overlord: Since these two variants of IS-2 have only slight differences,
mod.1944 is not planned currently. Perhaps later as a separate
upgrade for current IS-1/2.

karl_eller, on 02 January 2011 - 11:17 AM, said: I'm 90% sure the Schmalturm turret is bigger on the Pz4 than it is
on the Panther.
While we're on this topic, the Tiger II needs a model for the 10.5cm L/68, and the JPanther needs a model for the 10.5cm L/56.
NOA, on 11 January 2011 - 03:11 AM, said: Also important is for a look at the tracks on the Tiger I...
currently, they're using the narrow Transportketten, which were
NEVER used in battle. Battle tracks for the Tiger I, the
Breitketten, were used for battle and swapped off for
Transportketten when the tanks were being moved by rail or just
drove between fronts.
ElAtaque1944, on 26 December 2010 - 08:49 PM, said: And of course, tracks of the American Heavies after the M6 -
they´re much too small atm, because the grousers are missing. Here

Overlord: History expert comments:
Tiger I tracks have already been discussed several times. Their width is correct. It's a matter of perception. Narrow transport tracks (Transportketten) were used for transportation. In order to mount them outer row of rollers was removed as well as wide battle tracks (Breitketten), they were replaced for narrower version. When the transportation was over, everything was done in reverse order. This was the requirement of German "Ordnung" for Kursk, North Africa, and black earth of Ukraine.
In late 1944 and 1945 this procedure wasn't followed carefully as before, since it required much time and effort. That's why aces of Panzerwaffe began to mount wide battle tracks without outer row of rollers (sometimes they even used Transportketten in city battles). As a result, late WWII photos feature Tiger with removed outer row of rollers, that's why battle tracks seem to be wider. In game we have an "honest" model with outer row of rollers mounted, and since it goes along the edge of the tracks, visually they seem to be narrower than they actually are. Especially if one expects almost 30-cm gap between MIDDLE row of rollers and outer edge of the tracks (see 1944-1945 photos). If you look at the tank from the FRONT and compare it to the respective scheme - you will make sure that the tracks are of normal width.
Unfortunately this issue arises over and over again.

This would add so much more flavour to the game and relive us from the random battles that the main source of ingame frustration for many players due to all the

Company play atm is hopeless for anyone not in a tier 9 or 10 tank or tier 5 or higher arty (or happy random scout), the "free tier" company play could also use a increase in total points to 120 or so, this would give teams a chance to field 15 tanks or almost 15 tanks, maps gets abit empty with 9-10 tanks/arty on each side.

Overlord: Company battles are going to be divided into serveral sub modes:
according to overall tier of a company, limited to min/max tier of
vehicles in it, faction-based company battles.
Most probably overall tier division for companies will correspond to current battle leagues.

Overlord: The grass is greener on the other side of the fence.
There have been major faults and mistakes on RU side, which made long 10-month rough road of beta testing to release. Failures for RU side are even more critical, since officially the game is live already. The latest issue occured on December 31, right on the eve of New Year, one of the most celebrated holidays.
We actually learn from our mistakes and updating EU/NA side has ALWAYS gone much smoother, without significant "post patch" issues. And faster. Downtimes here are shorter.
Sorry, just couldn't help posting this.

What id like to know though. Is comparing the guns that are "really" used on the tanks.
What i mean is with the T54 its top gun is $1250 a shot, and its 2nd gun is $250 a shot.
So if you want to make a profit in the tank you really need to use the 2nd gun, and I do. So do a lot of others.
Its not really affordable to use the top gun.
Ammo costs as above, are a big thing really.
Like in a usual game where you shoot 20x. the difference between the guns is 20k in ammo bills.

not just a whinge from a few
ComfortablyApathetic, on 09 January 2011 - 08:17 PM, said: The mods are just people in the community who keep discussion
civil. Their opinions on balance are no more significant than any
other player and in no way represents wargaming.

Tanitha: That's why mods don't post much except for moderator messages.
When we are discussing the game, in black text, is just as a normal player, we play too ; ).
It means no more or no less than any comments from other players.
As said below.

Tanitha: I do like my vk4502p. I just don't like the mouse. I hate it, its
just a personal thing.
And its pretty apparent from my stats in it, 31 games, 29% wins, 449 average exp.
I'm obviously very bad at playing it too : )
However I do know mods that have a Maus and like it. Personal choice I guess.
But I want some kind of speed personally. So the is7 and its 50 will do me, or one of the T9 mediums.
Maybe the E100 will get me to stay German on release. Ive not heard much about it yet really.

state of unfixed major bugs. Server problems. Micro-transcations
not introduced yet.

Overlord: New servers will be added this week. Capacity of US and EU clusters
will be extended to approx 90k concurrent users which is more than
RU cluster has currently.
Micro-transcations will be implemented at release.

Overlord: Clan wars beta is about to start as well soon. Since clan wars will
be using web interface without considerable integration with game
client at least at early stages, the release of the game itself is
not dependent on clan wars release.

Archives\Beta\Impressions\More communication between the dev team and players
Link on message: #356113
NateBlack, on 07 January 2011 - 12:23 PM, said: This is my pet peeves. The exchange of information between the
developers and players is, in my opinion, too low. This is
critical. I'm sure most of you players out there want to know
what's going on, you'd like to know if the developers are listening
to your ideas, even if they disagree.
To be honest, one guy (Overlord) posting regularly just isn't enough. Sure, there is a newsletter. It's quite good, I have to admit. But there could be much more of that good stuff. The developers blog section, it's empty! How come? It's a great way to communicate with players, give them/us a chance to comment on ideas and make sure those comments reach those who are involved.
I suspect many developers read the forums, but they might not have the time to write a small essay in anwser to questions that have already been been explaind. I can understand that.
However, I think that if they somehow took the time, this would instill some much needed hope concerning where this game is headed. I feel there is just too many questions left unanswered right now.
Or am I alone in feeling this?

Archives\Beta\Larger Platoons please
Link on message: #356071
Masterofm, on 10 January 2011 - 03:36 AM, said: The Platoons are too small to effectively play with friends. It
would be nice to at least be able to have more then 3 people on a
team. This is the main reason why I would buy a premium account,
and If I can't play with my friends I don't really want to play it.
Have larger platoons please. at least 4, 5 would be best, and 6
would be a little too much.
Most every game for playing with friends revolves around groups of 4.

Overlord: Unfortunately it is not possible at the moment. It'd make the
balancing much more difficult.

I am wondering why you seem to never respond to the bug reports that people post. How are we supposed to know if you read it?
If I don't start getting an acknoledgement from devs for my bug reports, I am likely going to stop. Why post them if - for all I know - you aren't readign them?
