View PostA_Rotten_Egg, on 15 October 2010 - 01:42 PM, said: Do the spall liners help with fire? I guess I'm thinking crew compartment and the radio/ammo/soft humanoid things inside...
As I mentioned, the fire extinguisher will sit there for several matches unused until I do get a high tier slot, then it pretty much goes up with the tank. On the rare occasions I do catch fire while in a lower slot, the FE does seem to put it out.

Tanitha: I'm not too sure what the spall liner protects you from apart from it says Ramming damage, Explosions IE HE damage from HE shells and arty.
And sorry I forgot, with the German tanks which I believe catch fire more often, I set all the crew to study fire as their first skill.
So my T44 crew doesn't have fire fighting skills yet, but the leo and vk4502 are 100% fire.
When I do get a fire mine seem to go out pretty quick, I think i usually lose about 30% from a fire if I get one, and the fires out in a few seconds.
*EDIT

Quote Maybe if you're higher tier ppl use more HE against you ?

Tanitha: Thats a good point I think.
Maybe because you are on top, IE you are the highest tier, IE they will have trouble penetrating you, everyone swaps to HE..
The difference being then, all my tanks have a spall liner on them. Its only 50k for small tanks, so its one of the cheapest equipment too.
And i ram a alot, and i hate getting hit by arty, So the spall liner is a win all around for me.

Tanitha: I play a lot and very rarely have problem with a fire.
I mainly use T44, Leopard, VK4502
All equip a fire extinguisher, which gets used occasionally but not that often.
And all have spall liners.
The VK4502 is usually on the top, the T44 often is close.

Unexplainable bug

Subject: Archives\Beta\Unexplainable bug
Link on message: #177559

Tanitha: Ive owned computer shops for a long time. "Usually" these blue screens are from either virus's, or overheating. There's lots of other uncommon reasons. But they are the main two.
And id say overheating is your most probable cause.
There's a big CPU fan, and a decent sized fan on your graphics card/chip, and sometimes a smaller fan on another mother board chip, and a fan in your power supply.
The big CPU Fan and the fan on the graphics card both suck a lot of air into them, this also sucks dust in. They clog and either slow down or stop pretty easily. I usually have to pull mine apart every 3-6 months and vacuum them out.
When your computer works hard, "like playing a 3D graphical game" The CPU and graphics card get hotter, if your fans cant cope the chips temperature will get too hot, and they will blue screen your computer and switch off.
A graphical 3D game will work you CPU and graphics card, a lot more than most other things will. So it overheats while playing WoT, but doesn't overheat otherwise.
I suggest you take a look at those fans for starters.
And I hope that helps.
If your fan's are ok, and you have run a decent virus scanner (like Avast which is free), you could always uninstall then reinstall the game.

I understand that people can block someone by placing their tank between them and a hard place. You know, pin them in place. Many of them have called me a griefer. No, it is playing SMART!

Tanitha: Pinning tanks is a valid tactic, Its just against the rules to do it to a friendly tank on purpose.

Is it just me or do others think it's a bit weird having both German and Russian units on the same team? If you can't have German versus Russian because their's not enought players to put together 2 teams in a short amount of time then I understand, but it's truly weird having both countries mixed together. Next you'll throw in the Americans and the British into the mix...

Tanitha: From the FAQ

Quote Are battles fought by one-nation teams?
Before each battle, the game will randomly divide players into two teams according to the level and the development stage of their vehicles trying to make both teams equal in overall power. This means that a team may include tanks from different nations. The only case of “nation-on-nation” battles are special history-related events (e.g. the battle of Prokhorovka).

Tanitha: FAQ Link
The recent "1st Championship World of Tanks" was also a "one nation teams" competition.

Tanitha: You do play the same game we do, correct? You do know the other two bridges are TD deathtrap ambush points by the time he'd rethink he strategy to go to another bridge? I hope you never run a tactical scenario for a clan
Its not even anything about the game really. He wants to cross "a" river, there is three bridges, one is blocked. What can he do? Its not rocket science, he cant make the other tank move, he either uses one of the other two bridges or he doesn't cross. The blocking tank will be dead soon, that's why hes parked there to die there and block the bridge with his dead tank. Then its still the same, 3 bridges one is blocked so either don't cross, or use one of the other two bridges.
But what he cant do is break the game rules and shoot a friendly tank.
Id also think that if he was asked nicely he would have moved, but I doubt he was. The OP was raging that much he broke the game rules and shot a friendly tank, he was probably also raging that much about finding the bridge blocked that he was nasty in chat too. There's already one screen shot of a line of ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Also the blocker might have posted into chat, "blocking south bridge" and the OP didn't notice it, or was afk, or was tabbed out, or hadn't loaded yet. That picture doesn't tell the full story of what really happened.
I personally think blocking the bridge that early in the game wasn't a good move, But i didn't do it, and they can do as they like "without breaking the rules". If he was asked nicely to move and he refused, then that's not very nice, but we don't know what happened there.

LiannaSilverwind: I'd like to see 4-5-6 platoons as well.
Possible problem of 15 vs 15 will be:
1) Let's say 20 teams are made of all tiers.
2) About 10 teams fight against similar 10 teams in a row. They won't meet other 10 teams because they are made of too low or high level tanks.
3) After 3 hours of gameplay it's obvious that team A, B and C are hardcore, professional and easily defeat the others.
4) After 3 days of similar gameplay teams that are NOT A, B and C simply autodestroy their tanks to avoid humiliating defeat and "being farmed". After that they go back to 3-tank platoons.
5) A, B and C fight each other several days in a row, are bored to the death, and go back to 3-tank platoons.
I have played MMOs where not a single opponent would queue for a fight whilst your premade did not farm fight some other team, therefore allowing easymodders "normal" players to play against "normal" players. We have waited for an hour or even two hours in a row without a single fight, when enemy had thousands players who were ready. They just won't queue to avoid "being farmed".
I may be wrong. :Smile_honoring:

1. Don't suicide run. Although you get points for spotting, if you stay alive and act as a proper forward scout you will get more points via spot damage assists. Also you will live longer and you will be much more useful to your team which increases your victory chances and give additional points.
2. Try to take up a mobile forward observation point at the maximum visible range and keep that distance by falling back as they advance.
3. Try to set up a circuit where you are able to safely turn about behind an obstruction to prevent opportunistic shots upon you. Ideally that type of cover might consist of two large rocks separated by 50-100 meters.
4. chase after other scouts, if you track them their dead, especially when their near your troops. Deal with the enemy scout first before scouting yourself, since your team will be too busy fighting the scout to be of any assistance to targets you have spotted.
5. don't fight or try to bypass enemy fast mediums that are trying to interdict you, lure them back to your troops and keep a safe distance, then harass them once they are in range of your troops.
6. Do not approach a target head on, approach them in a decreasing orbit like a leaf going down a drain hole. If the target fires at you, briefly head straight for them to quickly reduce the range then go back to your orbit approach before they reload.
7. Always try to track your opponent first. The speed of a luchs will keep you out of fire of the pinned targets turret.
8. Try to keep an eye on other enemies in the area if your dogfighting, when the outside enemy fires at you that's your cue to safely perform an about-turn.
9. If there are two or more enemies in a group, circle around the group as a whole. Do not drive through the middle of the group as this will force you to expose your rear to at least one of them later when you turn.
10. Remember to randomly jink every now and then, arty can still hit you if you travel straight and a near miss will track you and result in your death.

Tanitha: Scouting the careful way / For smaller or non specialized scout tanks.
So as i was saying in another thread, When you are reading peoples advice, Its a good idea to check up and see how good they are, because listening to someone who's not every good, isn't a good idea. You should understand the situation in the game.. i cant play with such people who try to capture the flag on Tigers when you can kill the last Panther on other side in the game..
He understands the game fine, the game IS capture the flag, thats why the flags are there.
He was also driving a IS and not a Tiger.
As for the panther, Its a tier 8 hefty tank, you couldn't withstand one shot from a tier 7 IS so you probably wouldn't have lasted one shot from the panther either.
this is the screenshot of mine
Reports for team killing are to be emailed to community@worldoftanks.com
If you wish to lodge a complaint, email it in, the forums isn't the place.
But be warned they will probably check the logs for the game, and might ban you for abuse as well.

worth while going for tiger?
arrow
13.10.2010 18:00:18

Subject: In-Game Vehicles\German Vehicles\Heavy Tanks\worth while going for tiger?
Link on message: #175380

Tanitha: I have a slightly different opinion to above,
And to give you a idea Ive played the tiger, tiger II and vk4502 a lot and have all three at Elite..
I found the tiger a bit weak and slow. But then again its not that high a level, its only a tier 7..
Medium tanks like the Panther and T44 are tier 8 and can kill it easily.
And the IS series IS3 IS4 IS7 can kill it easily too, but they are tier 8-9-10 so again above the tiger's tier.
It might be a heavy and one of the best tanks of WWII but in game its not that high/good..
The tiger II was a bit better, but then again its a tier higher. So obviously it is..
While I was playing the tiger's/tiger II's I was always thinking wtf am i doing in these crappy tanks, The russian tanks look so much better on the battlefield. Maybe it was just a case of "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" But I'm grinding the Russian heavy's at the moment to see the difference : )
The Vk4502 was a dog out of the box, much worse than a "out of the box" tiger and tiger II.
And to upgrade it, wow what a horrible grind, upgrades are expensive on T9's : )
But when its upgraded and decked out, Its a great tank. I love it, I much prefer playing the VK4502 than playing the tiger or tiger 2. But that took about 250+ games to get to liking it.
And i believe the Vk4502 decked out to be comparable to the IS4 power wise.
Where as I conciser the Tiger and Tiger II's to to be fairly underpowered compared to their Russian counterparts.
Most people above don't like the Vk4502 and prefer the tiger II.
I think this is simply because the Vk4502 is such a long grind they haven't maxed it out and filled it with equipment yet.
And tier 9's don't make much cash either..
And the enemy VK4502's that people meet on the battlefield and shoot, Are probably stock ones that are really bad.
Facing a decked out one is a lot different, and uncommon.
Its true I said I found the tiger slow, but don't find the Vk4502 slow (even though its slower) because the Vk4502 is armored to hell.
Also Its Beta at the moment, So expect tweaking and balancing to happen often. Whats the better tank at the moment, might not be at release.
To answer your question. I don't know  , but its only Beta and everything will get wiped, So it doesn't really matter what side you look at during beta really.
And... all things being the way they are at the moment, I'll be going Russian on release.

Tanitha: This next line is a bit debatable, because if you google it you will get a lot different answers.. But..
"A common answer is, Your eyes only see about 30-40 FPS. So any more than that is a pointless waste."
So if you are getting more than 30-40 FPS then you can definitely afford to pump up your resolution and or graphics settings. I would suggest you keep increasing your graphics settings until you get down to about 35FPS and then leave it at that.
I usually get 15-20 FPS on my graphics card and its acceptable but 35 would be better.
(I run two monitors on mine and multitask a lot which slows my games FPS down a bit in game.)

Tanitha: Don't forget the game will hopefully be going down a clan war's route, and away from the random teams a bit..
So having clan mates that are dead, in chat calling targets, warning you of enemy advancements, etc will be a good constructive thing.
The games not complete yet.. And from their last interview they seem to have a LOT more planned for WoT that I imagined.

Maybe more since you announced that you will TK on purpose on the forum before hand.

there i just broke the entire "play lower tier to afford high tier" system....
besides playing anything other than high tier mens you aare just ther for cannonfodder/target practise for the high tiers

Tanitha: Some people will think you are very selfish for posting that, Letting your team of 14 other players down because you don't give a dam about "that" game/tank.
BUT.. as you said, at the moment the game does force you to play lower tanks to support and pay for the higher tanks, And to afford to buy new tanks. Like a IS7 and a mouse cost 6 mil each and that cash has to come from somewhere, And you arent going to get 6+ mil to buy the mouse by grinding the VK4502 it usually just breaks even with premium, Or makes very very little like 5k a game profit.
So its true, a lot of people will drop down to a smaller tier quick 1 minute game (solely for credits) while they are waiting for their big main tanks to come back from battle.
I hope they do a little more work on balancing credits and exp out, to prevent this a bit.
Buying gold to buy credits doesn't really work either in this case, the 6 mil credit mouse, would take $60 worth of gold to convert into the 6 mil credits.
Posted Image
The mouse is unlocked, I'm still 6 mil short of credits though. Playing my decked out elite T44 or VK4502 doesn't earn it.
Playing the hummel or luch or leopard does. It would be very nice to be able to play the Vk4502 to earn enough credits for the next tank up (Maus), but you really cant.

what to do?
what should one do to be able to atack?

Tanitha: You should ask him to move "nicely", now you said you asked him to move, but all I see in the photo is a pile of ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????? spam. If that was your way of asking him to move nicely, then no wonder he didn't move.
You shot a tank twice your size? that was kinda silly. He can easily TK you (as he did), and shooting him is against the rules and Bannable. Him blocking the bridge is his choose and a valid tactical move. It would have been nice if he moved "if you asked him nicely". But to be honest from your forum post, and from what you wrote in the screen-shot, it wouldn't surprise me if you lost your temper and didn't ask him nicely.
What would you do if you got to that bridge a couple of minutes later and found him dead and the bridge blocked? Thats what you should have done when you got to the bridge and found him there refusing to move.
As the mod has told you already.
There is two other bridges, use one of them. But do NOT shoot him its against the rules and bannable.

Tanitha: Its not a issue IMO, the more platoon's the enemy has the better I think.
Because tanks in a platoon are counted a 110% when it comes to balancing. So all in all your team should have a stronger set of 15 tanks than the enemy with platoons.

View PostIvin, on 13 October 2010 - 12:14 PM, said: For me it’s always amazing how the died guys are ALWAYS the best tacticians and players…or not!

Tanitha: There is nothing that makes the last man surviving the better player.
Its often the TD's that are camping the base that survive a while, especially if the other tanks are out there taking the battle to the enemy base, away from the TD's base, and away from the TD's, protecting the TD's and arty camping at our base from incoming tanks. of course its the offensive tanks that are killed first, but does that make them the worse players? no definitely not.
The scouts that go into their base, and do a great job of killing the enemy artillery, then dieing. They are usually the fist to die. Are they bad players for dieing? No definitely not, they killed the enemy artillery and set the game up for their team to win.
The best Russian player in the game who usually drives a IS7, has decided to now start leveling the German side. So hes in a stock standard low tier German tank, that gets one shotted 1/4 way into the game. Does that make them a bad player? no..
Often the people who last the longest are the ones cowering in the background or pointlessly hiding in a bush as far from combat as they can get. Other tanks who died probably wouldn't have if they had a bit of backup from the tanks that hid instead of fought. Does that make the tank hiding in the bush the better player because they lasted longer? no..
The arty that survives all game, is that because they were good? no its because the tanks that defended them were good, and often tanks that died defending them.
The game starts... 1/2 the team push left and 1/2 the team push right. The enemy all push left.
So the right half get to cruise into a almost empty enemy base kill a few tanks and cap, and the left half run into the enemy outnumbered 2-1 hold them off while the other half cap and then they die. Were they bad players for going left and dieing? no..
Dont get me wrong, I don't like the backseat drivers (usually - see below), but to label a dead player "bad" I don't agree with either, and it is equally as wrong.

View Postandyjdc1, on 13 October 2010 - 12:17 PM, said: funny they are the ones that insult the most I just fail to see the point of it as i say esp when its family they feel they need to insult does my nut in

Tanitha: Of course the dead people are the ones that will comment/chat/insult the most. They are the ones that are no longer playing, So they can type. People who are still playing rarely have time to type unless they are on auto move for a sec, or camping/defending. Dead players are also the ones that are sitting in your tank watching your every move. Alive players who are playing usually don't notice what you are doing.
As I said, I don't support backseat driving, or insults.
But constructive criticism is ok, Like a arty who isn't moving after he fires, And the enemy artillery has seen his smoke trails and is taking snap shots at your arty. You obviously will tell the arty to move because hes been seen and is being shot at. Its still "backseat driving" but its done for the purpose of making the team win, and sometimes its needed.
As for "family insults" are you referring to the usual fad of "your mum" comments?
Mostly these are just in jest, friendly ribbing, jokes. now it might not be your kind of humor, and you might not find it funny. I don't, i find the your mum jokes pretty lame. But then again I'm 40+ now so... I think that's more for a younger generation thing. But the point is.. if you are going to go on the internet, and playing internet games with a very broad age group, with thousands of people from different religions, ethnic groups, sex's, backgrounds, views etc, you need to be a little more tolerant, and grow a thicker skin.
They are only words, why get so worked up over them that you feel the need to forum post a complaint over it?
Raise above it, and ignore it..
And.... Have fun.. that's what games are for, not to get worked up over silly things..
So Have fun..

Tanitha: Yeah pointless abuse is just that, pointless. Its not constructive, in jest, or a joke..
But seriously after 3000+ games since the softwipe, I rarely see nasty pointless abuse in the chat. Mostly I just see friendly ribbing, or smart ass humorous remarks.
Edit** After reading Turvas's post below, it does remind me that it happens more than I remembered. I guess I don't really notice it much, because it doesn't really bother me. The more you play MMO's the more used to it you get. : )

View PostMiracle, on 13 October 2010 - 01:00 PM, said: can someone give me a laydown of this topic coz i am starting to get convused.
when i replace my commander from a other tank it stay's the tank name in red and the % in red meaning he is not skilled for that tank.
does that mean that the crew from 1 tank will always preforme less good at a other tank ?
i was planing to get my stugIII crew to baracks and then placing them into the jagdpz tank so i could start with 78% crew but it seems that the crew will have some red markings and will not preform that good in the better tank destroyer.
is there some easy way to train them and keep the % of training or will that cost more then it is worth ?
thx for reading it and many more thx if you can explain some of this tuff for me.

Tanitha: Its a little confusing, and i think its changed recently too.
But the below should be right.. Hopefully : )
You can pay 200 gold per crew member, and they will goto 100%
You can pay 20,000 credits per crew member, and they will goto 75% or 90% of what they were if they were higher than 75%
So if they were 100% they will end up as 90%
If they were 78% they would end up as 75%
Or if they were new crew starting at 50% they would also end up at 75%
So training crew that was 78% on a different tank is no different to getting new crew.
Of you can train for free.
Which is getting new crew at 50%.
Or training them at 80% of their old skill level.
So training a crew that was 100, they would end up 80%.
If they were 78% they would end up 62.4%
If they are swapping from one tank to a different type, I believe the drop is more.

Link on message: #174755

Tanitha: Imo the point of this thread is not about how often they get destroyed Its about when they are destroyed and you go back to the garage, what % is the tank on, and how much will it cost to repair.
From memory with my T44, when its destroyed, and you are back to the garage, usually it is down to 2% -> 5%, and the repair bill is then expensive, 15k up to 17k i think it was from memory.
However, some other tanks like the KV-3, sometimes Ive had them destroyed, but at the garage Ive got 20-50% damage left on the tank, and repairs are cheap.
So his question was, IMO, why is the T44 always down to so low when its destroyed, and other tanks aren't.

Tanitha: Playing stock tanks are pretty annoying, so its good to play your old tank a bit more. Then you can make it elite and then pay to transfer the extra EXP to free EXP that you can buy upgrades for your new tank. + level your crew up more. + get the extra credits you need.
Or 143 gold -> credits will cover the difference.
Or yeah you could sell the valentine. Its not very good. And its not a standard tank that you level up to something else.
