The_Chieftain:   What is a skill-based solution which doesn't penalise good players?   Imagine, please, you're the best player on the server. You have a 75% win rate. You are, with at least a vaguely competent team backing you up, all but unstoppable. How does a skill-based MM 'rig' the match so that both sides have a reasonable equivalency of skill, and thus a reasonably equal chance of winning? What are the chances that you will actually get a vaguely competent team?   Put simply, the only option is to give the best player the worst team-mates. Yes, your reward for taking the effort to learn to play, to become good, is to be given team-mate after team mate who are "tomatoes." Just so that people who aren't as good as you have a better chance to beat you. Even if you were to implement 'bands' (based on whatever the requirement is to be in a band), if you're at the top of the band, who are your team mates going to be? People who are worse than you. Just to keep things 'fair.' How are good players going to react to this knowledge? They probably won't be happy.   I submit that it is, in fact, not fair, and that having the occasional rout such as that of the OP is the cost of the random system we currently have in play. And that the chance to win is purely based on how good you are as a team randomly selected, not by penalising players who are good, and giving people who are poor a routine crutch so they can rely on the better players to carry.
