Packadurm, on Jul 14 2010 - 16:49, said: I love my TD. But I think it has some issues.
I just got the StuG III, and was very excited. I was finally gunna be able to rip holes in the PzrKmW IV with that stupidly huge turret and gun. This was not the case. And, just like with my hetzer, One or two shots in the front and I was toast.
When I first looked into TD's, I saw that they had Heavy frontal armor and not much on the sides and rear, and I was fine with that. But they really dont have alot of armor, even on the front.
My shots also bounced off of that p IV. That really ticked me off. A tank destroyer that cant destroy tanks is rather redundant.
So, I Know that the weaknesses of TD's are the sides and the rear. I'm fine if I see a light tank get me with 2-3 shots in the back, or If a medium tank gets a shot on my rear and I go up in flames. I expect that. I shouldn't take hits so easily from similar tiers right in the face like I was though.
-I think the damage and penetration for TD's needs to go up.
-I think the front armor needs to be improved for TD's.
A third thing I would like to see is Research-able armor in TD trees. While other tanks can research new turrets, we have no upgrades for that slot. I think a nice feature for TD's would be the choice to put on heavier armor or a Heavier gun. Make it so that you cannot have both due to weight.
Tank destroyers should be a feared force in urban centers in those tight streets where you can really only see their front. Even for Heavy tanks.
On those open fields Tank destroyers should be feared because they should have good accuracy.
This is just my take on TD's, which, after playing SPG's, Medium tanks and Td's, are my favorite tank to play with. They are simple a little broken imo.

MrVic:
The Panzer IV with upgraded turret (My clan calls them Bobblehead Panzer IV's) The turret is insanely armored, The upgrade bumps its armor rating way over the normal. Toss in the slopes on the turret help immensely. Your rounds could easily strike that big turret (especially if you were using auto aim)
I have bounced 107mm rounds off that turret many times, in haste to take a shot. The hardest thing I have found is picking where and when you engage a enemy tank or at least control that encounter as much as possible. TD's truly are snipers in the range hitting power and hiding. Just some options of what might of been the issue if not then just food for thought
I have recently perfected my 10.5cm Stug III one shot kills on Panzer IV's, Its hard to hit sometimes but man the results are enjoyable
See if anyone can figure
out where that spot is

MrVic: I think that is one thing that would be nice is to have people that
post add if this view is from Tier 1-2 Fights or Fights 3-10. Now I
know people are going to say "SPG"S are OP in both! I find that
both sections of battles SPG's are a whole different beast. But I
think its worth noting which of the 2 battles you reference in your
experiences and comments. I see huge differences between the
recruit and standard matches, So try to post which area you are
referring to and maybe I can confirm my observations and help
provide a better picture for the Dev Team. Also if you want to Earn
MrVic bonus points also include the Map used in the fight your
drawing your conclusions from.

Archives\Beta\Behind the 8 Ball; Casual Player Blues
Link on message: #27646
Mrtheox, on 15 July 2010 - 03:29 AM, said: I'm a pretty casual gamer and one of things that attracted me to
WOT was the promise of reduced grind, i.e. the "eve" trailer. I
fell like this game is not casual player friendly. First, grind
equates to superiority in this game, and the margin of superiority
achievable by grind mitigates tactical prowess, for the most part.
Secondly, the grind feels unsatisfying, as each time you play your
newly unlocked tank you are disappointed. The base models are
always inferior to the previously upgraded tank. I call this the
kick to the nuts effect. When a player unlocks a new tank, they get
all excited for their new shiny, then you get it out on the
battlefield and the tank is totally underwhelming and ineffective.
This goes against the grain of most MMO experiences. As when one
"upgrades" to a new piece of gear or levels up, they expect to
instantly be better than they were before. In some ways this game
punishes you for upgrading your tank. Because the new tanks are so
bad, you're forced to either stay back in your old tank and fully
upgrade it and transfer the XP out into new tanks or, suffer
through 14 to 20 games of being very ineffective in order to buy
the upgrades necessary for the tank. For instance, to earn enough
XP/Cash to upgrade out of the BT2 into the 7 the BT 2 needs to be
fully upgraded to have a chance at earning decent XP. Then the 7
doesn't feel superior to the 2 until it's 90 percent upgraded. This
pretty much extends down the whole Russian medium tank line.
The Russian mediums are expensive and less of a value of the Germans (Russian tanks aren't any better than the germans but the russian tanks cost way more). Which means by the time a player has unlocked their Russian tank, The German players are all ready down another tier or they are fully upgraded, thus compounding the competitive gap. Also because the cost to upgrade is so high on the Russian side, if you want to keep up with the power creep you have to sell off your old tanks and can really only play one tank. The longer one plays this game the greater this problem compounds, you end up playing more and more just to try and keep up. 6 months after launch it will be all elite equipment with each side having 2 leopards and 3 other new people in lights getting killed quickly and it will be verv difficult to level up.

MrVic: One thing to remember is in the future the 3-10 tiers will be
divided up into more sections. So grinding through tanks won't
really matter since you will play with people in your range. Not
sure when this is coming just yet but I am pretty sure we will see
it sooner rather then later
Plus this is still beta and their
testing exp and progression. The Devs go through all the data as
people play and changes happen. Its all just a matter of time.
And as always remember its beta and changes are not instant
(Tho the WoT devs are about the
fastest I have seen about adjusting things)

Chaoslord83, on 14 July 2010 - 02:58 AM, said: I'm thinking that the Higher the Tier of tank the more credits and
xp you get credited with, which would suck as the Leopard is a dead
end, so Light tanks would get screwed by the system.

Link on message: #26106

MrVic: I have gotten to know a few people I have learned are "Leopard
Elites" in my book. And can do amazing things even in the high
tiers. Since you generate exp by spotting for other players and get
even more exp for spotting them and then a team mate doing damage
to them. So in higher tiers they generate lots of exp easier since
everything is larger and worth more. This allows you to invest in
other tanks easier and such. So as to making cash and converting to
free exp its amazing. Lights always have roles in the higher tiers
if you can embrace their combat style.
(I have hit a Leopard with a 122mm round many times and it drove away, trust me they are nice. On the same token because I hate trying to kill them lol)

MrVic: Just a few things I have been considering as a good route to help
some of the SPG issues I see.
1) Direct fire cannot use auto aim. This would force you to aim and increase the chance of taking arty head on in the slower tanks if your
forced to try to capture their base. That kinda of rotation and accuracy I think should not be available in direct fire mode.
Currently I see a good number of SPG's working as TD's due to the sheer hitting power. More so in Starting Tiers 1-2
2) Starting Tiers 1-2 battles need to be greatly adjusted as right now they are one shot kills on all starting tanks and some are more
durable then any of the other tanks in the Tier 1-2 range
Still kicking around the upper level SPG's right now. But the two above issues I think are a first priority from my experiences

Tho saying just to remove it really is a waste as it has some great aspects to it.
Plus why waste the work done so far on it.

the middle of the PzIII/IV, it´s more on the left side.
Is this intended or a bug/mistake?

Is this intended or a bug/mistake?
MrVic: If my memory is correct its not. It was shifted due to internal
components and supers structure needed to be shifted.
It being slightly off center is correct if I remember correctly

merig00: There will be ways for players to earn gold. One of them is to be a
mercenary and get hired by a clan for a battle
Also you'll be able to trade with
other people. So wait for micro-economy.

EVERYTHING, which in the case on the PIV, would mean unlocking over
60k XP worth of stuff that I dont want - which is more than I need
to transfer. IMO the system should be looked at.

merig00: Yeah the tanks where you can "branch out" should be looked at.
Otherwise I don't see much problem with the current system. The
whole idea of the paying money is to speed up your advancement
through the tree. I think that's the most fair way to set up F2P
game.

I have 34k XP on my PIV, and the only way to transfer it is via gold. Without gold, other users are at a massive leveling disadvantage.

Seriously. I watched such a fight while loling my ass off, the light tank circled around the heavy for like 3 minutes shooting it everywhere possible while the heavy was trying to turn its barrell towards it.
The light tank got so desperate it actually started RAMMING the heavy tank.
It made my day, srsly.

MrVic: I have had 3 Panzer IIIA take out my KV-2. It was rather well
played by them. Not so much by me
