Subject: Guide Park: King Tiger
Link on message: #3881943
bronco330, on Jan 25 2013 - 16:27, said: I just had an idea that sprung out of another thread.
Videos like this (as I mentioned before) are a great way for new and inexperienced players to learn and understand some things about their tanks. This video is relatively short and covers the basics, leaving the nuances and specifics to be learned through experience or in-depth forum guides. (I think that's a good thing) Player education can only serve to make the quality of the gameplay better, and I believe I've heard several developers express their dissatisfaction with the quality of gameplay in random battles.
However, I have my doubts about how many people who need to see this will take advantage of it, especially long after it's been published and it's not in the top 5-10 recent news listings. Many players just run the game (quickly clicking past the launcher screen) and don't spend time exploring the website.
So that leads to IDEA #1:
Include some feature in-game that would display this video. For example, if a player selects the King Tiger in the tech tree, garage, or store, there could be a fairly visible button to "view video guide" that would either act as a link to the web page with the video, or more preferably it would stream and show the video in the game window itself. In addition, there could be a "video guide" subsection of the garage menu that would display all available videos. Over time, these guides would accumulate and begin to be a great, easily accessible resource.
Sub-idea 1.1:
Now, I understand that making these videos accessible in-game would potentially create pressure to have guides available for many more tanks sooner than if it's just a web series highlighting a popular tank every so often. So if that pressure exists, maybe WG could sponsor contests for players to create the best guide videos to a tank. I think this has been done in the past, and with a little more structure it might be effective.
IDEA #2:
Create a similar guide series to the maps (which would also available in-game), as these are often nearly as important for tactical education as the tanks themselves. The videos don't have to be long or complex, just a showcase of some of the important features of the map and their tactical importance (see below). This would have to be a subsection of the garage menu in order to display a list of maps, video links, and perhaps large minimap displays.
Example for Idea 2: Abbey.
Disclaimer, this is mostly off the top of my head, but gives the idea:
Panning shots as the major features are listed: the abbey itself, village beneath, mountainous paths in the west, ravine trail in the east, base defensive areas, and scout run below the abbey on the east side. Then go into detail on each feature while showcasing battles in those areas. Short example: "The abbey commands the center of the map. Fast tanks can quickly take this position at the start of the match and will be able to light up and shoot at enemies in the base areas while using the abbey for cover. However, if the enemy team controls the abbey and the village beneath, your team can use the mountain trails to get around them or to shoot at them from afar. The mountain trails provide flanking opportunities for mobile tanks and teamwork is often necessary to conquer this area of the map. Across the map, the eastern ravine is cut off from the rest of the map and there are only two ways in and out. Tanks that go down this road cannot get support if they run into enemy forces stronger than themselves, and tanks climbing the hills into either base from this road are vulnerable, but it does provide a fairly direct route to the enemy base. There are rocks and burnt out tanks that can be used as cover from tank fire, but you may be vulnerable to artillery fire on this road. Both bases can be defended frontally by using buildings and rock formations as cover, but they can be flanked from either side. There is a narrow road that runs below the abbey that may be useful for scouts to find enemy artillery or light up base defenders later in the match."
Etc.
Basically, it should highlight that different parts of the map have different tactical importance and are generally suited for different kinds of tanks or strategies. Depending on the map, it should briefly describe some of the more important areas to control (eg. hill on Mines) but also what to do if the enemy controls those areas.

Suggestions definitely noted. Very solid ideas.

We received an overwhelming response to Skirmish 10 and felt it was justifiable to allow twice as many teams with the same available prizes.

Also, I will recommend to Major_Rampage that we have a parody song contest!

Mugsy_: Hello Tankers,
This past weekend we ran into a synchronization issue on our servers. Rather than keep the servers running, and potentially having the issue affect every single player, we made the call to restart them on Saturday evening. While the initial issue was fixed, the restart caused issues, particularly for Clan Wars players.
We love Clan Wars just as much as you do, and we’re the first to admit that lately it hasn't been up to the high standards that you expect it to deliver. No one is more disappointed by this fact than us. So, we’re re-doubling our efforts and working with all of the teams here at Wargaming to ensure that moving forward, Clan Wars is what it should be – perfect. All of you, whether you take part in Clan Wars or not, have been incredibly patient with us and we’re extremely thankful for that. So, please bear with us during this process and thanks again for your understanding.

waited till after clan wars or the tournament special battles you
had planned. There wasn't a single good reason to do
this during a prime time session and if he -had- to done
compensation should have been given. As many other MMO
type games would have done for a similar situation instead of doing
nothing and being just as likely to do this again in the
future. This is the real reason games such as Warthunder
will dominate tanks in the long run. You guys do not
give any bang for your buck nor do you care about true honest to
god customer service which even the horrid EA can manage
sometimes.
You are pushing players away slowly but surely and it is really sad because of the time invested by many. I'm sure you do not care much though as you dislike larger clans and the upper management of Wargaming already made bank so what do they care in the long run either. Sad.

GeneralDirection: The issue was significant enough to warrant a server reset. I'm
sorry you disagree, but it was impacting a large number of players
and needed to be addressed.

Clan Wars. Oh yes it did. It seriously affected chip placement and
some of us found ourselves fighting battles with very little notice
when they were not expected. All chip placements from before the
restart should be reset, and only those battles that were planned
before the reset should be accepted. We could ask for the gold we
spent to be reimbursed but we know that won't happen.

GeneralDirection: thandi, you're misunderstanding my statement. The issue that forced
the server restart did not directly affect clan wars. Obviously the
server restart caused problems, but the reason we had to restart
the server was not related to it.

GeneralDirection: I generally see the opposite. My win rate was 57% yesterday;
granted I didn't have a lot of time to play, but I don't usually
run into losing streaks because of it being 3x or 5x.

You screwed up the map, thanks for nullifying our two battles and handing the territories back to the full team that showed up and lost. Also, you screwed with our chips, and made it impossible to replicate what we did today. Thanks for putting us back two days and two territories. I feel like SIMP or something.
One more stake in the Warthunder migration.
Edit: Looks like you selectively rolled back or reset battles and/or territories. I would like to show you how much I think of you but I am sure I would get another amazing display of moderation epeen.

GeneralDirection: The downtime last night was something we could not avoid. We take
server restarts pretty seriously, and always try to avoid downtime
during peak times. However, last night was a case where we could
not wait to restart the server, and so we made the difficult
decision to bring it down during peak time.
This was not an issue related to clan wars, but it did affect a lot of players who participate in the end game.

Division because they had to face a strong team in just the second
round and maybe had a bad night. Is no way you can tell me River of
Blood is not a top 30 team (10 major and 20 minors). This was a bad
way to seed an entire season of play. Seeding should have been done
like World of Tanks Classic, Season 2 opening with mini round
robins and then using the points earned to seed into the qualifying
tournament. When I first saw the format of qualifier I did not
realize was not double elimination for all rounds.
I also feel sorry for Kozaks [KOZAK] who went 3 and 2 against River of Blood. You deserve a chance to be in the Minor Leagues. Sure others got screwed over by bad seeding too.
My suggestion at this point is cut in half the season length (and I assume the prizes) so we can get to season 2 with better distribution of teams into appropriate leagues.

Yoott: So what your saying is that a big normally top team had a bad night
so they should change the entire tournament setup because of it...
when other teams had good nights and won and that should be
disregarded....
hmmm sucks to lose doesn't it...sucks to get bad seeding too... but its how it works.....
They had a chance as did everyone else to move on.. they didn't.. so they 'EARNED" a spot in open league as hundreds of other teams did...... should they in reality be there ... nope. not even close to disagreeing but they didn't play well or bring their best game and thats where they ended up.... they will move up next season as would be expected and as any other team would have to do in the same situation... your asking for favoritism which does not and should not exist.
That would be like the NFL's top seeded team being knocked out in first round of the playoffs... it happens all the time ..... and they are told .. better luck next season...
Moral of the story .. bring your A game 'EVERY TIME" .. or someone will knock you down...
