Subject: Open League Championship Series, Summer 2013

questions here:
1) Why are the matchups fubared? Specifically, why did some teams play the same opponents twice?
Example: KARMA played 14th Armored Division twice, at 8:30 and 9:30, on 7/26/2013. They should have fought two teams.
http://worldoftanks....ms/37011-KARMA/
2) Why does at least one team have missing matchups?
Example: my team (Founding Fathers) doesn't have either a matchup OR a bye listed (we already had our bye) for August 23rd, game 1?
3) Why is there more than 1 bye for that same date?
Both 4SAKN and 7MC have byes.
4) For that matter, why is there a single match on 8/30/2013 between RCAF and We Are 138?
The matchups for this season just don't seem very thought out. Has no one done a grid to see if all the combos were covered? (Hint: there are plenty of players, myself included, who could or would do such a grid for you, WG!)

Captain_Judo:
The grid we've designed has all teams playing every other team once. Unfortunately, the printed schedule was off and we chose to stick with what was published. In the end, all teams will have played 28 games which is the critical stat of the season. What you see are means to that end as a result of the available matches.

Common difficulties Clans May Face:
There are some easily identifiable pitfalls that a lot of clans fall into. Clans often fail due to the following:Too many leaders – Just have you and a Co-leader
In Match leaders - Have clearly defined leaders(Field Commanders) to lead the battle
Inactivity – Ensure you have regular practices and matches
In fighting between members – Remove members who cause problems immediately
Members not feeling part of the team – Share around responsibility and listen to your team or clan
Bad reputation in matches – Remove members who don’t listen or constantly negative
Poor sportsmanship – Ensure your members do not bad mouth other teams, even if your clan or team is being abused
Immaturity of members – Avoid younger players who tend to not work as a team
Lazy Co –leader – install another member if you feel you are not being supported
No Practices – All clans or teams need practice. Practice can be as simple as making time to just play friendlies a few times a week in a training room

Member Retention and Development:
This area draws on countless other important aspects when building and managing clan that have already been discussed. Keeping members means you have to understand this basic principle; people want to play in an atmosphere they find enjoyable. That can mean a variety of different things, from an older drinking crowd, a group of war vets, to mature crowd sarcastically bashing each other… even “hardcore” gamers want to play and be around similar people. Your job when laying the foundation for a clan is to find your groups niche and develop it.
Starting with recruitment, it is important to ensure that each recruit is good fit for the clan. The more happy members there are, the more likely they are stick around, hang out on TS, and platoon with others, etc. Individuals who don’t belong (doesn’t mean their bad, just means they don’t gel with the group) represent a problem. It means that either the person has changed… which is fine, or he was someone who should not have joined in the first place. It’s easy for people to disrupt an enjoyable atmosphere for others, thus making them have less desire to interact with the clan.
Building group cohesion through teamwork can go a long way in both keeping members, and developing their abilities as players. Accomplishing goals individually feels good, accomplishing difficult goals as a collective group or team… feels even better. That is what makes CW and other competitive environments enjoyable. Each goal overcome and achieved builds camaraderie, and slowly people begin to lose a little bit of their individuality and trade it for the tag they wear next to their name. That begins to represent them just as much as their avatar handle. Not everyone desires “hardcore” play, but many enjoy the experience of playing alongside friends so try to foster that.
Make sure the leadership remains close with its members. Officers overtime typically naturally gravitate away from soldiers, largely platooning or playing with only those close to them, which are either close friends or other officers. It is very important to ensure that the leadership is always available to a clan’s members, being both active and visible.
Developing and improving player’s skills:
Everybody learns different ways, and at different rates so finding one solution that will work for everyone is impossible. The best we can do it is to provide a few broad tips and tricks. Before you can teach someone else, you need to have a firm understanding of the game and its mechanics first. In this section of the forums there are numerous excellent guides and videos. Once you have a grasp of everything yourself, you can then pass on the knowledge and experience to others.
Game Guides and TutorialsPlatooning with members is an excellent way to help them get better. Think of each match and each situation as a training opportunity, focusing on awareness (watching the minimap), teamwork (when to absorb damage for your buddy), and decision making (where to go and when to go there). After every game just take a few moments to discuss what you did as a group, and how to do it better next time. You are also helping those who are working on “grinding” new tanks for Clan Wars get them quicker and easier. As well as building group cohesion.Training rooms can be nice for showing off general tank tactics like corner fighting, or for showing great locations on specific maps. They can be a fun environment to test new tanks, searching for weak points, and getting a better understanding of key locations on maps.Tank Companies offer another avenue whereby soldiers and officers can hone their teamwork and tactics together. “Battle Callers” can practice running battles in chaotic and unpredictable environments, this helps in making them more comfortable making decisions on fly. For soldiers they get a chance to play with a team, honing their skills with group play.Landing Zones are specific provinces in Clan Wars where teams battle in a tournament ladder system for the right to fight the province owner. These are excellent areas to practice as typically a dozen or more clans will “apply” to land. This gives you an opportunity to have several battles against other opponents in a 15v15 environment. You can attack the “LZs” in several different time zones so you have numerous battles each night if so desired.Replays, videos, and streaming! More and more people are posting video guides, and more tournament matches are being streamed all the time. These events can be a lot of fun to watch, and provide numerous tips and tricks to learn from. The key is always making sure to ask yourself why… why does a good player move there, or shoot that guy instead of someone else. If you can explain and understand why, then you can implement that knowledge into your game and thus pass it on to others.Today more and more of the community are open to help improve the play of the community. “Mentor” programs have been setup so those looking for opportunities to play alongside skilled players just need to ask.As a clan it is everyone’s responsibility to help each other. Take time to pass on useful hints, cool spots on maps, or great tutorials. To get better in the competitive environments of this game such as Clan Wars, the group has to improve. People will have to learn to trust the members of their team to cover them, just as they cover another person. They will have to learn how to focus fire, rather than shoot at the easiest target. Teammates will need to learn how to jump in and take shots for a fellow tanker. These skills do not come naturally to most, largely because “public” matches don’t necessarily reward/teach this kind of play. It takes time and dedication, but with that you can achieve your goals. As players spend more time within a clan, as they begin to enjoy the game not just for the ability to shoot tanks, but also for the time they get to spend amongst friends and comrades; they will lose a little bit of their individuality and come to recognize themselves with the tag at the end of their name. That is the goal of any clan and its leadership. Those players will be there through the good times and the difficult, because the clan has become their gaming home.

These are excellent areas to practice as typically a dozen or more clans will “apply” to land. This gives you an opportunity to have several battles against other opponents in a 15v15 environment. You can attack the “LZs” in several different time zones so you have numerous battles each night if so desired. Replays, videos, and streaming! More and more people are posting video guides, and more tournament matches are being streamed all the time. These events can be a lot of fun to watch, and provide numerous tips and tricks to learn from. The key is always making sure to ask yourself why… why does a good player move there, or shoot that guy instead of someone else. If you can explain and understand why, then you can implement that knowledge into your game and thus pass it on to others. Today more and more of the community are open to help improve the play of the community. “Mentor” programs have been setup so those looking for opportunities to play alongside skilled players just need to ask. As a clan it is everyone’s responsibility to help each other.

As well as building group cohesion. Training rooms can be nice for showing off general tank tactics like corner fighting, or for showing great locations on specific maps. They can be a fun environment to test new tanks, searching for weak points, and getting a better understanding of key locations on maps. Tank Companies offer another avenue whereby soldiers and officers can hone their teamwork and tactics together. “Battle Callers” can practice running battles in chaotic and unpredictable environments, this helps in making them more comfortable making decisions on fly. Growing your Clan:
The goal of recruitment is to find likeminded individuals who share common personalities, and common values thus making the game experience more enjoyable. If you are building a competitive clan, it’s important to find people who want to compete and get better. If you are building a casual clan designed for family and friends, you need to find people who match that. A clan with too varied a mix of individuals is bound to split, simply because people are different. You can avoid such occurrences with sound principles that are adhered to early on in the formation of a clan.
A clan must have an identity; this identity needs to be expressed to others during recruitment in order to properly inform potential recruits as to the nature of the values/priorities of the clan. When you are upfront and honest to people about your clan, they will be making an informed decision, and thus making a commitment when it comes to joining the group. As such it’s a recruiter’s job to ensure that he is representing the clan accurately to any and all applicants.
Inviting new members:
Step 1: Sign in on the top right
http://worldoftanks.com/

Step 2: Once you have signed in, right click your name in the top right corner. A drop down menu will become visible; please select “My Clan”

Step 3: On the right hand side, please select “Recruiting Station”

Step 4: Enter the name of the player you would like to send an invite to your clan for. The individual will receive a message to his account, and he can then choose to accept (join the clan), or decline.

Where to Recruit:
There are several ways or areas to recruit players. One of the main ones is via the WoT forums under the “Clans” section.

Here there are two main sections for recruitment; one is called “Clan Recruitment”. This is an area in which clans can make a topic that potential recruits can visit and view. They can read about your clan, its values and priorities and contact an officer if they so choose.
Another area of the forums for recruiting is called “Looking for a Clan!” This section is for individuals who are searching for a clan to join, can make a topic expressing their priorities and desires for a clan they would like to join. Please read each post careful and only respond to those you feel would make a good addition. Please be aware, many recruiters typically send PM or Private Messages to potentially recruits rather than post directly into the topic.
Another valuable area to recruit players is in-game. Here you can send messages to individuals you saw in battle that you think would be a valuable addition to the clan. Some recruiters resort to in battle copy and paste messages… however, these are generally looked at with disdain as this method of recruitment has been employed too frequently and is seen as spam.

Bandicam:
Bandicam is decent and easy to use recording software. What this allows you to do is record your CW battles, capturing not only the match itself, but also the "battle communications" of the team. This can be incredibly useful when reviewing matches for good or bad battle calls, and diagnosing and addressing the communications in the battle. The free version has a watermark and only records for up to 10 minutes, but you can start and stop anytime. Once done you can upload the videos to youtube.
http://www.bandicam.com/downloads/
Replays:
Replays can also be useful for there small size and if you need to quickly see and understand what previous matches an opponent has done. http://wotreplays.com/ is a site which you can use to upload replays and share a link quickly with others. The downside is that they are viewable to anyone.

Cloud Storage:
When you want to share replays Dropbox, and Google drive are cloud storage sites that allow you to upload replays to them and allow others to download them with a link you provide. These services are free for 2gb on dropbox, and 5gb via google. These can be very handy when you need to give other people replays of previous CW matches, or for diagnosing problems or areas that need to be worked on, with other people. The more competent eyes you have on a problem, the better the solution will be.

MapTactic:
MapTactic developed by Flamino is a very handy browser based drawing tool for mapping out strategies on WoT maps. First you must make an account (its quick and very easy), once sign in you are able to host a new briefing session. It creates a webpage that anyone you give the link to can join. The commander can allow others to “draw” on the pages, as well as place tank icons down on the map.
This is far in away the best and most used tool in any good leader’s arsenal. Each battle you should prep your players as to the strategy they will be running by giving them the link to your page. Afterwards you can make adjustments, as well as place enemy tank icons down in order to give perspective on the battle. Flamino also has an excellent tutorial page for those just starting out.

Voice Communication:
There are a few options available for clans who want to set up voice communication software for their members. Almost every clan uses these because they make communication much easier, whether in battles, in meetings, or just for fun building group cohesion. There are various size servers available, so it’s possible to start off small say 50-person server and then bump up to a 100 if you need it, or more.
TeamSpeak 3 is probably the most commonly used one. It’s relatively easy to use and provides the admin a whole host of options to play with to better cater to a clan’s needs. Even if you choose not to use TS3, please be aware that many clans you will need to communicate do you it, so its handy for diplomatic purposes to have it installed.
http://www.teamspeak.com/

Ventrilo is probably the second most widely used voice communication software after Team Speak. It is simply, relatively straightforward, and generally less expensive than TS3.

Mumble is another option available. It is typically the least expensive but probably the least common used in World of Tanks.

Clan Forum/Website:
There are numerous options available to clans wanting to make a website or host a forum. It is pretty hard these days to not run into someone who does not have a website, or at least know someone who can set one up. However, the time required/energy means that for many clans it’s simply better to use a hosting service.
These forums are used outside of the regular WoT forums as a way for the members of a clan to discuss things internally. There discussions can be held between officers, or soldiers about what the best course of action should be. Most clans also use their website for recruitment as well, asking each applicant to signup on their site and send in an application. These potentially recruits can then be asked questions in order to determine if they are a good fit for the clan, before accepting their application via the WoT UC page.
One of the easiest to use hosting forum services for clans is Enjin. It is possible to setup an enjin site for free, and get by pretty easily. If you or your clan needs extra resources they do have upgrades that can be purchased anytime.

What do those buttons do?
At this point you are probably wondering how does a Clan Commander manage his Clan? First you will want to log into the portal and find the My Clan button in the upper right had corner. Click on your name and you will see this drop down menu.

Once you get to your Clan's page you will see a list of button on right side to manage and modify your clan.

Certain options maybe not be visible to you depending on your position in the clan. Check out the section regarding clan permissions for more information on what each position has access to. If you are the Clan Commander you will have access all the portal features.
Lets go through these pages and explore what each one can do.
Clan Details
Clan Details is the first option and will come up by default when you click on My Clan
At the bottom of the membership
list you will see some important buttons to modify your clan. The
buttons will activate when you select a player to change.
The first button is a big one,
Delegate Authority. This designates another member of the clan as
the Clan Commander. Don't forget that once you give the position to
someone else you won't be able to move it back as you won't be Clan
Commander anymore!
The second option is Modify
Position, which changes the rank of member. This is were you can
promote your recruits, designate a treasurer, and the rest of the
positions. See the chart below to learn what positions have which
permissions.
Send Message does exactly what
it says. It allows you to send a message to your members which will
be seen in the upper right when logged in to the web portal.
Exclude from Clan allows you to
remove members from the clan. Once they are removed from the clan
they will not be able to join another clan for 48 hours including
the one they just left.
Last but certainly not least is
Allocate Funds. This is where you can distribute Gold from your
Clan's treasury. You can select multiple members to give the same
amount to several players at once. Two words: No Refunds. Once you
empty your coffers you won't be able to ask for it back!
Alright one section down, but
don't despair that was the big one! The next few don't have quite
as many options
Modify
This area allows you to change your clan's name, 5 digit tag, motto, description and logo. Note that some of the features have a Gold cost associated with them and cost you every time you want to change.
The first option is modify your
Clan name and Tag.
The Clan name is pretty self explanatory but the Tag is what other players will see in game after your name [].
The motto and description are displayed on your Clan's page when non clan member check your page.
Attributes is where you can upload your logo in several different sizes that are displayed for other to see.Tank Image (64x64) is displayed on your tanks in-game
Large Image (64x64) can be found in your in-game profile and on your clan's page
Medium Image (32x32) is displayed next to the battle button in-game and on your Clan Wars control panel (at the bottom of the Clan Wars map)
Small Image (24x24) is shown on the Clan Wars map and on your forum posts.
The last section,
Other, allows you to enable or disable new players sending
applications to join your clan.
Applications
This section allows you to review applications of players who are applying to join your clan. You can send them a message to get further information or accept/decline them here.

You can also check if you have any new applications by clicking the message button on the portal.
Recruiting Center
Continuing on the theme of recruiting, the next section is the recruitment center. Here you can type in a player's name and send him an invitation to come and check out your clan.

Battle Schedule
