Captain_Judo:   There's no gold distributed between two featured teams. But if you find yourself on the other side of a VIP team, you'll be treated just like any gold lucky player.

View Postliquidv2, on May 08 2014 - 19:31, said: My team's total damage was 12,894 (your suggestion prompted me to actually add it up like a god damned nerd, so I did).  4,153 is much, much more than 20% of 12,894 (because that's 2578.8).  As for the post above mine, that WT E-100 might have hit a teammate and negated himself from the HC award running.  I hit no teammates and caused no teammates damage.   In conclusion, World of Tanks hates me.  Since 9.0 rolled out, my win rate dropped from 54.41% to 54.22% while my damage, exp, and WN8 have all increased (the WN8 dipped a bit but still).  My win rate literally flat lined like someone in the E.R. without a pulse.  If I don't platoon with other people, my teams generally fall flat on their faces the vast majority of the time regardless of what I do.   Check this one out for reference:

Trevzor:     So, I took it upon myself to add up the enemy team's HP pool from your first screenshot, the one that you had the question about.   Their total HP pool was 23690 hit points.   You caused a total of 4153 damage that match. 4153 / 23690 = 17.53%   You need to claim 20% of the enemy team's total hit point pool as damage that you caused... unfortunately, you were just a bit short. To earn the High Caliber medal in that match, you would have needed to cause 4738 damage in the match. One more shot, and you would have had it.   Regarding your second screenshot, you caused over 9700 points of damage to a team with roughly the same amount of hit points (from a long ways away as well. GG.) Because of this you were awarded the High Caliber medal as well as the Tank Sniper medal. Sadly, sometimes no amount of carry in the world will win you a match.

The_Chieftain:   You see, this is one of those fundamental issues of culture which makes discussing such things with other cultures difficult.   in my entire extended family, cousins, grandparents, uncles, inlaws etc, not one of them has had a house catch fire. None have suffocated to death or illness. Not one of them has been in a car accident worse than a bumper scrape. My parents have, however, been burgled twice, (Ireland (hot) and Belgium (cold)) and mugged once (Saint Petersburg, that one actually made the news). Yet it is not considered paranoia to have smoke or carbon monoxide detectors, nor drive a Volvo because of its safety record and wearing a seatbelt on even the shortest trips. Why should protection against crime be any different? The events may be unlikely, but it is easily accepted that they -do- happen. One can make the counter argument that wandering around with the "knowledge" that you are safe isn't anything other than sticking your head in the sand and hoping the event doesn't happen to you because it's easier (and  less unpleasant) to ignore the possibility than deal with reality and the actions one needs to take should that reality strike.

Quote For self-defense from the neighborhood is due to cultural problems like Dai said

The_Chieftain:   Are there bears and mountain lions and the ilk in Japan? Such creatures do exist in my neighbourhood. Heck, there's a bear on our flag.   I have highlighted the operative of the last line. Japan may have no particular need for self defense guns. The country has an astonishingly low rate of murder, and quite a low rate of rape. But there were still some 1,800 individuals in Japan who quite possibly did feel a strong desire for a self defense gun. The US mentality puts great on the rights of the individual, to include the rights to life and liberty. To what extent should the individuals who were victims of violent crime have their life or bodies forfeit for the good of the national crime rate statistics? Further, is there any reason at all to believe that Japanese culture is such that incidence of violent crime would increase in accordance with increased access to firearms? Maybe I have an idealistic view of Japan, but I don't believe that it is.

Because of the failure of the Tacoma narrows bridge in 1940 suspension bridges are built with a mostly rigid bridge deck. Depending on the load on the deck it would warp and eventually collapse, but it could stay up for a while. Those bridges are massively over engineered. That's why the Manhattan bridges didn't collapse even though they hadn't been maintained adequately for almost 30-40 years.

The_Chieftain:   You have much to learn about gunfights, Dai. "Getting the drop on someone" has more of a psychological benefit than necessarily a tactical one, unless one is -expecting- trouble. But criminals don't expect trouble, they expect compliance. It's a massive mindset difference which a resisting victim can (and usually does) take to his or her advantage.

Quote Crime rate of Japan and Korea are much lower than the United States. That's not statistical evidence to you?

The_Chieftain:   It is statistical evidence that crime rates of Japan and Korea are lower. It is not statistical evidence of anything to do with private ownership of firearms.

Quote Overkill?  It's not about likelihood.  The man struck by lightning cares not for the odds.    It's not about how likely it is that you'll need to defend yourself, it's about whether your right to do so and your right to maintain the means to do so is recognized and honored by your fellow individuals and the society they make up.

The_Chieftain:   I agree entirely with this. We're not talking about 'a right' (at least, I'm not) as in the typical second-amendment "I have a right enumerated in the bill of rights" thing, but a natural right as recognised by pretty much any civilisation (modern and ancient) to defend yourself, by lethal force if required. The thing about the US is that it takes this natural right and specifically incorporates it into legislation in such a manner that the ability to practice that right of defense cannot be arbitrarily limited without damned good cause.

I'm noting that having guns isn't going to solve anything in the first place, and it's being turned into an excuse of  "we must defend against criminals and evil state" while abdicating the responsibility of a citizen of working within society to reduce crime.   There are other ways of protection yourself, and the best protection of all is making society into a place where crimes are unlikely to happen in the first place.

The_Chieftain:   "Unlikely" doesn't cut it for me. I only have one life, and having a low overall national crimerate doesn't do me a whole hell of a lot of good if I'm unlucky enough to be one of those very few who actually happens to be that notable statistic to whom violent crime actually occurs.   In such a case, having a firearm accessible is far more likely to solve my problem than any other solution I can think of off the top of my head. There is no reason why such a policy cannot work in conjunction with attempting societal changes in order to reduce the chances of the firearm being required to begin with.

Quote How do countries like Japan or Korea deal with crime with strict gun control? Because they're some happy-go-lucky place? No, it's because they realize that the method of protection isn't going to solve anything. It's about changing society, and if one keeps going into siege mentality that only contributes to the supposed necessity of guns as protection.

The_Chieftain:   Is it your contention that serious crimes against the person such as rape, murder et al are not attempted or committed in Japan and Korea? I've not looked up the figures, but I find such a contention difficult to believe. I am not aware of any nation on the planet where the government's violent crime prevention is 100%, though I admit the crime rate in the Vatican is probably pretty low.

HBFT:   Thank you for the reminder.  Yes, each member of the "Pot of Gold" is worth 500 gold, with a maximum of 500 gold awarded per fight. So the most gold-efficient scenario would be if your team members each destroyed the vehicle of a different WGA member.

As if that has anyhting to do with the memory of fallen soldiers.   Once again I am deeply ashamed to be Czech.

The_Chieftain:   Could be worse. San Francisco decided not to accept USS Iowa as a museum ship as a statement against the US military's policy on homosexuality. (Despite SF's most prominent liberal politician, Dianne Feinstein moving hell and high water to get the Battleship to the city. She has a bad rep due to her gun control position, but she's actually quite pro-military). San Pedro, down near Los Angeles gleefully snaps up the ship, and to the surprise of nobody at all, the US military eventually changed its policy on homosexuality about the time the ship moved. San Francisco is now left without a battleship, without a good reason to show for it.   Idiots.
