Subject: Design a French Tank Guide contest
Link on message: #1331207

View PostTheTrice, on Jan 20 2012 - 14:38, said: There will be two categories:
Video Category: create your own video guide and upload it to www.youtube.com. Send us your YouTube link by email to: design@worldoftanks.com. Create your video however you like – be sure to use the in game replays!
Written Category: write up your guide in a doc, pdf, or docx file and send us the attachment by email to: design@worldoftanks.com. Please be sure to name your attachment: “[username]_frenchguide” so they can be easily found. Also, please check your grammar and spelling.
The contest begins today and ends Friday, February 3rd at 11:59 PM PST (7:59 AM UTC - Saturday).
Submissions need to include:
    Your game name
Which category you are submitting for (only one per player)
Email subject line: French Tank Guide
First in Video category: what do You mean exactly by using in-game replays? like putting a download-link in the video for the game reply? , or just to use game reply system while making the video? and i assume video will be more than just a good battle right?
like I am gonna talk about my ARL 44 , so i will make a good battle and post my video on youtube? or it would be like how to hide and what tactics i can use for it, as the second one will require more than a battle showing each tactic alone!
Thanks.

Gaea: The use of in-game replays was a suggestion, not a requirement, it is not necessary to use the replays.

We just beat Red Sky and it felt really anti-climactic winning that second game and just going, "Whelp, I guess that's it." With first to 2 you can't really build up a rivalry, and it lacks tension. I would of loved it if they could have won 2 more and beat us 3-2. That is truly good sport. Another problem I have is that I'm too worried about losing 1 match to use my alternates. They haven't had a chance to play since the second round when myself and another player weren't available. I feel like a jerk every time I say I can't afford to use our alternates, even though I know our alternates are really good. I would gladly trade 1 loss(not that they would lose) in a first to 3 setup if it meant my alternates could play, but in a first to 2 I can't really risk that. But I'm probably just a huge jerk.
2. North American champs vs. Australian Champs.
A fight for bragging rights, and maybe a small pot of gold. Schedule it on a Saturday so both teams can make it, and let 1 region have bragging rights for a month. It'd be cool :)

GeneralDirection: I will consider 3 wins, but I'd like to hear how the pace of the tournament felt to everyone.
I'm also considering doing away with the day off between rounds and instead setting up specific days for Challenge rounds each week. That way we can schedule other tournaments as well during the week. Basically, Challenges would take place on, say... Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week, perhaps with two rounds on each of those days if the tournament is larger (Post meridiem would probably have two rounds per day, for example, while the Ante meridiem would have one round).
Either way, I have a few days to think on it and decide if we change the schedule format at all. What will still remain from here out is how registration works, and when the first round takes place. I think that went fairly well.
I really like the idea of #2. The only concern I have is the time it would take place.

View Postnagatron, on Jan 19 2012 - 22:48, said: Well how about specializing the 5v5s a little more? Right now there is a delicate balance of mobility and strength that favors the defender. What if we had a tourny without light tanks at all? Conversely what about a tournament with no heavies?
Something needs to change to make this more than rock, paper, scissors with tanks.

GeneralDirection: Yeah we will be getting a bit more creative with tournaments over time. I wanted to get my footing though and make sure the team sizes worked well first.
We learned through the IGN tournament and the first two Challenges that 5-vs.-5 can work great, so long as we're smart about the map chosen and also consider certain tier limits may slow down the pace of a battle more than others.
We have a Community Manager joining the team in February that will be specifically focused on E-Sports and tournaments, so 2012 is going to be a really big year for World of Tanks competitively.
