merig00: Himmelsdorf. Small quiet town, located in the south-eastern part of
Germany, in the Eltz river walley. The roots of Himmelsdorf's
history are in the year 1157. At that time the construction of the
Eltz castle began under the patronage of the Emperor Fredrick I
Barbarossa. The castle is an excellent example of the medieval
architecture.
Today the castle rises above the streets in the northern part of the Himmelsdorf center.. The cobblestone road ascends to it from both sides, and from its territory you can enjoy the view of beautiful view Central Park, the pearl of the Classical period, which is defined by the clear geometrically exact symmetry of patterns.

However, except the aesthetic function, the park is also has a practical role. The park separates two different time periods of Himmesldorf's life. On the right side from the park lays the old town, with narrow street and small buildings dating to middle ages and renaissance. The old town's center is market square with a magnificent church in the gothic style.

One the left side of the park is the new town - creation of the german neo-classicism. The basis of the district is the old town hall, around which the new administrative buildings were built.

Himmelsdorf is located at the intersection of several rail roads. That is why the train station, built to the south of the park, played an important role in the economic development of the town, all the way until it was bombed by the ally forces.
