Xp and credits...

lord_farquad: It's a balancing factor. Normally at the beginning of the game you will earn a lot of credits (relatively speaking), whereas towards the mid to late game you will tend to earn more XP (again relatively). XP and credits are both directly related to the damage you do in battles, damage your allies do to targets you are spotting, capture points, defense points, etc.
