because people don't like to play in tier 1s? That they undervalue
the role tier 1s play? I always found the tier 1 scouts to make the
game more open, and less campy, and are very useful tools when used
properly.I have taken a break from the 3v3s, because for 80% of battles if my team didnt push then it would just draw out in a camp. With only 3 tanks you can't cover large portions of the map, so the enemy can sneak in if you aren't careful, so it seems like the majority of teams strategy was just to camp near their base. Its difficult to justify sending one tank away from the other 2 to scout for you on the other side of the map, if your timing is bad you will get attacked 3v1 or 3v2, so teams camp near their base in a group.
Honestly it felt like my team nearly always had to "do the work" of the matches, find the enemy team, advance into them in some fashion and decide the battle, otherwise we would just have a nice chat while a tank game ran in the background.
Adding tier 1 scouts to the mix gives you eyes on parts of the map where you havent commited your main force. You can send a scout to figure out whats over that hill and not risk 1/3 or 1/5 of your tier points being eaten by guys hiding in bushes waiting for you to make the first move every game.
I'm not even saying i really like tier 1 scouts, but I don't like camping, and I do like interesting setups that are not just all one breed of tank (all tier 8s, all tier 6s). Lets get more odd point setups like tier 8 5v5 with 38 available tier points(do i bring one tier 6 scout, or maybe 2 tier 7 heavies...?) tier 8 7v7 with 46 tier points(bring a tier 5 scout and a tier 1 scout or two tier 3 scouts, or bring less tier 8 heavies and substitute in some 7s...), or tier 6 3v3 with 15 points available.
The combinations are endless, I dunno why it seems to always be either all one breed of tank(only tier 8, only tier 5), or all one breed of tank with some poor guys stuck in tier 1s. I vote for more variations in the future, so more tank combinations become viable, the more variety of combinations that can be used will increase the fun factor and increase participation.
dance210: We decided to start the 5 v 5 out with a very similar format to the
3 v 3 - all one tier, enough points to bring that tier. Depending
on how popular the 5v5 format is, I am definitely willing to change
up the tier points, make it so that there need to be lower tier
tanks. That won't come immediately though; I want to try this
format for a couple of weeks at least.
If this is something that people are interested in, I think it would be interesting to make some different changes. Thank you for the feedback and keep the suggestions coming (especially what y'all see NOT working).
