dance210: Wow, the amount of whining and fail in the threads Re:Sheriff
events are truly amazing. I’ve taken some time to think over what
the “playerbase*” wants, and this is what I have come up with.
Warning: it is all from memory as I didn’t feel like going back
through some of the old threads - once was more than
enough. If I happened to miss a complaint some constructive
feedback, please let me know:
*Note: does not reflect the opinions of the entire WoT population
1. More Sheriffs playing all the time. But they should be either a) WG employees, not those who are trusted by and subject to the rules set forth by WG or b) anyone in the “playerbase” who is willing to volunteer.
2. Sheriffs need to play all tiers, not just Tier ___ (insert whichever tier the “playerbase” is currently not playing). They also need to play all hours as they are never on when “I” am.
3. Less bot/idiot Sheriffs that are really hard to kill and play well. (I know, I’m amazed by this too).
4. Equality for all! It’s unfair that only one team and one member of that team has the chance to win a reward.
5. When “my” team doesn’t have the Sheriff, everyone (except “me”) plays stupid to try to earn the reward. Therefore, we need a large enough reward for “me” to justify possibly changing my play to attack the Sheriff but not for “them” (aka the rest of the team). Preferably gold, although the equivalent in free XP or credits may be deemed suitable.
Major, if I may be so bold, here are a few suggestions to the above complaints constructive feedback that may make the “playerbase” happy:
1. Obviously 100 Sheriffs, a mix of WG employees and trusted players, are not sufficient to meet the demands that everyone should be able to find several Sheriffs during an event. Therefore, perhaps increasing the number to 1000 Sheriffs would work better. More could work, but please keep it to multiples of 1000 (see 2 for explanation). Oh, and it should be open to everyone, not just a "select few."
2. To make sure that there is always a Sheriff playing every tier and every hour, Sheriffs should be given assignments. For example, Sheriffs number 1 – 100 would only play Tier 1, and four would be assigned to each hour (the extra unassigned Sheriffs could be floaters and play at any time, or be assigned to some peak hours). For each tier during any given hour, there should be at least 4 Sheriffs playing – still not perfect, but more fair to all, true?
3. I’m really not sure how to fix this. Is there a way to fix a bot playing well? Should it be fixed?
4. Equality for all! Instead of having the person who kills the Sheriff get the reward, make it a team reward. If the Sheriff team wins, that team receives a reward, if it loses then the enemy does. Any other way is unfair and should not be considered. This is a team game after all and winning is all about team work.
5. Gold is the preferred currency and yet 500 gold seems to make idiots out of teams. Therefore, the amount of gold should be reduced. I am a bit confused as to whether 1250 XP will deter or encourage players to perform a mad rush to kill the Sheriff, so perhaps its equivalent (50 gold) is still too high. Is it possible that 5 gold is too low to reward “me” even if successfully deterring “them”? Although it's possible that the problem is simply the presence of the Sheriff, in which case the reward has no bearing on how the team (including "me") plays and can be as high or as low as WG deems fit.

Honestly, I enjoy the Sheriff events. The few times I’ve seen a Sheriff, neither team has acted stupid and the Sheriffs have always been mature players who did their best to help their team. I could care less how much or what the reward is, part of the fun for me is seeing the Sheriff and knowing I have a chance to kill him. Yes, the free XP is less than the gold, but for some players that may not matter. For me, any bonus free XP will help me get a new tank or upgrade a module quicker, and that works just fine.
Please remember as you complain give constructive feedback, that just because it doesn't work for you, doesn't mean that other newer or badder players won't find it helpful. It's nice to see WG changing the prizes to see what will/will not work for the future. It would be awesome if they decide to go back to gold rewards but it’s not a game breaker if they don’t.
Thank you to WG for running these, and other, events. And thanks to the Sheriffs who volunteer; I look forward to trying to find you in battle this weekend
