I remember correctly)The_Warhawk: You remember correct.

degree of superiority over the ME-262 in air combat. The
earliest models of P-80A had a 3850 lb J33-A-9 or J33-GE-11, while
later bloc P-80A would have a 4000 lb J33-A-17. In either
case, the thrust to weight ratio of the P-80 would be better than
the ME-262 on two 1700-2000 lb jumo 004s because the P-80A was
about 1000lb lighter. On top of that, the P-80 had more wing
area. Most specifications lists credit the P-80A with a
better rate of climb, which confirms that the thrust to weight and
lower wing loading are working.The_Warhawk: This was my feeling as well. My understanding was that the
P-80A had a slight advantage in overall maximum airspeed, as well
as an advantage in airspeed in level flight. So ultimately, the
P-80A can out climb, out turn, and outrun the Me-262. I'll openly
admit I'm not up to date on the dive performance of either
aircraft. As Wulfehound pointed out too, the P-80A had a better
armament for going after fighters.
