The_Chieftain:   It's... a known problem, and why folks who think about it will usually consider the Bren to be a better section weapon than the MG-42. In a defensive position, with stockpiled ammo, it's awesome. But for a section in attack, all that ammo has to be transported somehow, and that limits the ability of the squad to operate a bit. Further, as section machineguns are supposed to be more suppressive than killing, you just plain don't need that rate of fire.   Again, another case of people looking at paper stats, and not thinking about how well a weapon fits into the larger war.
