T110's Second Century of Civilised Comfort

How is a new player who has never looked up the mechanics supposed to know how a given shell will react with armor at a given angle? Going with the concept you posted:   "Armor works better the more it presents a shallow angle to the projectile, while projectiles are more likely to get through any particular piece of armor if they are bigger, or more powerful than other projectiles.   the 3x rule is more intuitive. If its >3x bigger than the armor then it autopens. If its less it does not. In reality the 2x rule doesnt actually matter for the vast majority of players, and only players who actually care to learn will take the time to look it up and understand how a >2x shell reacts with armor.   A player who has never played isnt going to know anything about how anything in the game works.   2) Then hire a new map design team. Like... an entirely new team who can design a map that isnt just 2 or 3 lanes with no cross support opportunities. Beyond that... you know its not that simple, sometimes it has to be done to win the game   3) Fair enough.

The_Chieftain:   1) He doesn't, specifically. But he will have a general expectation. The current x3 rule is explicit, it is clearly defined. That doesn't mean that that it is intuitive. How is "120mm always bounces, 122mm always penetrates"  intuitive? I go back to the example of throwing the ball. That is done intuitively, even though nobody has a clue what the parameters or characteristics are. Something which relies on known figures isn't intuitive, it's analytical.   2) I happen to agree with you on the concept of corridor maps, which is a different issue. However, I had a think about the IS-3 hull-down 'over yonder' problem, and it really does depend on what's shooting at it, and from what range. I can think of a couple of Tier VIIIs which should go through the turret roof with the revised mechanics if both are on level ground.   Yes, I believe if you look back, I described Minotaur, after my first game in it, as having an ROF better than a Des Moines, and a turret traverse rate better than a Gearing. It is true that all those 3" turrets have no anti-surface capability, but with the main guns as they are, I don't think they're really necessary.
