The_Chieftain: And Australian..   WRT the Merkava picture, I'm not convinced that that's not a sub-frame. Look at the tank's extreme left (right as we're looking at it), and you can see what appears to be an actual armor panel resting on the frame. If so, it's not much over an inch and a bit, which would be in line with Abrams, if a little thinner. Need better photos!
