T110's Zen-like Inner Core.

Many times, the fact that the reactor did not just up and decide to explode one day and the disaster was instigated by people overriding safety measures typically astounds them.   An interesting thing I learned was  it turns out that solar farms built under migratory bird flyways turn the birds into instant fried-chicken. It is impossible to please people, since apparently there was some protest over the massive solar towers because they were too bright [NO DUH. The sun is bright. The solar farm works by focusing sunlight on a point, just like a giant solar cooker. What were you expecting idiots?] and were killing lots of birds. The birds land on the tower and get fried, they also get drawn off course by the light of the tower like bugs and fly into the sunbeam and get fried.   And of course, that the chemicals that go into the solar panels are possibly worse for the environment than buried nuclear waste [considering that after you re-enrich and reuse nuclear fuel over and over again it pretty much becomes safe, not to touch, but to bury in a box somewhere underground], not to mention the massive tracts of land that have to be cleared for solar and wind farms. And of course, look at the environmental damage done by dams; Hetch Hetchy being a prominent example [then when they break...]   Nuclear reactors take up city blocks a few city blocks of space, and have byproducts that are relatively safe if disposed of properly [in boxes, buried beneath the ground]. The warm wastewater [which does not go into the reactor core. There are no radioactive fish.] does cause environmental damage to kelp forests, though.

The_Chieftain:   Don't forget that the wind farms are built where the wind is canalized, and the birds, it turns out, also like to fly in the wind as it's less effort for them to get from A to B. Result, many chopped birds, and requests to shut down wind farms.   i'm seeing a few Bernie Sanders placards up around the office. Not a huge fan of politics at work.
