"military history for kids" books (I think the series was called
Modern Military Techniques or something of that sort) that always
struck me as implausible. The claim was that all US armored forces
in WWII were designated as training units because Congress had
forbidden active-duty tank units from being used as anything but
infantry support. Is there any truth behind this whatsoever?The_Chieftain: Not quite. The Tank Corps was abolished, and tanks became
the responsibility of Infantry Branch. Cavalry had to use "Combat
cars", which were tanks under a different name.
