Tank Fires and the beauty of Water

The_Chieftain: May depend on the tank. As I recall, a Tiger's engine compartment was designed to be flooded when submerged. The trick was that the air intake/exhaust had to remain free. In -theory-, I can't see why a tank which uses air drawn from within the tank can't be run almost totally submerged if the RPMs are high, the gear low, and the hatches open.   Then again, most tank fires were in the ammunition, inside the hull, so entering the water shouldn't do much for them.
