I know this because gold from these tanks could easily penetrate the turret front of the Maus even when angled, but only the flat center part, where it isn't sloping up or down. Not to say that all unicums are really mediocre players with unlimited gold, or that all unicums use gold to begin with, but I'd bet that most of them that do regular use gold wouldn't have stats as good as that if they had to stop using gold ammo.    There definitely is spamming going on, people load up nothing but gold because it gives the best performance. I can tell because I get spammed with it even when I'm in a tank that doesn't have armor strong enough to warrant the use of gold, and they don't switch over to standard AP or HE (if I'm in a really lightly armored vehicle), implying they may not be carrying any.
