Tanitha: No problems at all Delta.
A lot of players dont like the matchmaker, and from a business point of view, the majority of the players need to be happy, so based on that alone the matchmaker needs looking at.
Taking the Wargaming badge off for a sec, I'll speak personally as a player who's played in excess of 10,000+ games.
Personally I've never had any real/major issues with the matchmaker as it is.
There is a few tweaks that I'd personally like to see.
"personally" I like the sound of a 3 arty per side limit.
"Personally" I think getting a game in T8 artillery is difficult.
But with the every day tier spread matchmaking. I remember so I'm sure you will be experiencing the same thing. That..........
If you are in a smaller tank, as a new player you do get frustrated, you think, I'm the better player, I've shot this tank 5x and barely done any damage, now hes going to turn around and one shot me, if I had a bigger tank he would have been dead!, Why am I up against tanks 3 tiers above me 3/4 of the time... etc..
But,, when you level up to T10, and play the bigger tanks. The other side of the fence, looks completely different, and not like you imagined all the way up while you were leveling. By the time you get to Tier 10 you have learned so much more compared to when you were on T5,6,8 etc. you then start to realize that you get paid exp and credits based on what you do, how much damage you do, or how much damage others do while you are spotting for them, And all that is based on the level difference between yourself and the tanks being damaged. So after people get to T10 most of them go back to playing mid range tanks, because they are fun, and more of a challenge, and they pay a ton more, especially when shooting tanks above your tier.
But, the problem with the above is, although most people who get to T10, look back and realize the MM isn't bad after all. The newer players who are still leaving up to T10 are often unhappy about the 3-4 tier spread and having to fight with bigger tanks, so a lot of players drop off...
So regardless of how good or bad the matchmaker is. Isn't really the issue to me, a bigger issue is how do the new players who are leveling up, perceive the matchmaker. Because if players dont enjoy the leveling and mid level games, a lot of them dont stay to get to top tier games.

Other random thoughts.
During beta. After leveling up most of the tanks in game. One of my favorites was the leopard, where I had 1000's of games in it, and it was my most played tank. Similarly now i would imagine the T5 lights are equally enjoyable.
At the moment one of my most played tanks is the T5 KV, or the Lowe. With the mid Tier German mediums being one of the favorites amongst the mod team.
If the tier spread was reduced, high tier battles would then become mostly T9/T10 like clan-wars, and that's not ideal either.
If you are in a smaller tank, you cant get into a dogfight with a larger tank or it will one shot you. You need to hit and run/hide, while other tanks are in front of you. Or better still hit and run/hide with other tanks behind you shooting over your shoulder then you get the spotting damage from the other tanks and 1/2 their exp too. Or if you ar in a light, or medium, a lot of time you can run circles around a bigger slower tank, especially things like KV's, so there's no way they can even hit you.

Personally I think one of the main things with fixing the matchmaker, is to have a nice in game tutorial / guide, teaching the new/mid tier players, how to get the most from their tanks, and teaching them some kind of tactics. How exp and credits is earned. Etc..
Anyway.. improving the matchmaker isn't a simple click of the button. Things like this are connected in many ways to many things. Which is why a separate section of the development team will be made after the 7.0 patch, to work on this situation thoroughly.
And please note, The above is just a unofficial personal discussion of a player, I am in management and not linked to the game development team, they are a different section.
My opinions above, are my own, and not of wargaming or the development team.
And also please note, my stats aren't great since release due to work interrupting any games I try to play usually : ) My stats before release were top100.
