I guess I'm not surprised.   I mean if they can't even see that arty is overpowered and think it's balanced because of "50/50" stats, then it's basically near impossible to expect balance between tanks.
It's really no different than flipping a coin a bunch of times to determine balance.    The more times the coin gets flipped the higher chance for a unit to be "balanced".
