They don't run the companies just to give away gold; they run them to get people engaged in the more competitive/organized play that TCs provide over pub games by enticing people who usually don't do them (which is most of the WoT NA community; it's rare to see Junior, Champions, or Absolutes happening much outside these events) with the possibility of gold.
If you're only playing these to get gold, you shouldn't.  Most that only play for the gold are the ones that run sub-point teams hoping to just get the gold for losing to the WGA team and just are poor fights for all the full teams playing during the events.  I play during them because they're: fun, useful team play practice for CW/Tournies, and you don't keep running into the same few teams you do playing other times during the week.  It's just bonus if I get gold for running into them on top of an enjoyable evening of TCing.

All that said, I levee the criticism that they should never do just Junior TC weekends (like this one).  Tier four, on the whole, is terrible for pub games since they often are tossed in as fodder for T5/6 games so many players don't keep them around to play "for fun" like they do 6's and 8's (Medium/Champ TCs).  It doesn't hurt to do Juniors to get newer players involved (You guys should probably start announcing them on the main page again or at least include them in the weekend deal announcements), but it's disappointing to not see it done alongside a Champ/Absolute to get teams playing higher tiers for the large chunk of the community that doesn't hang onto sub-T5 tanks (T5 being the lowest most players keep around to play for fun).
