Lert: +1 for the post on principle. However, I'm going to play devil's advocate here and argue that the engine exhausts you're used to probably burned a lot hotter than a 1950's era diesel's. Were you an Abrams man by any chance? That thing doesn't have exhausts, it has vertical barbecues.
