GeneralDirection: My father and two brothers all served in the US Army. One of my
brothers died at 22 (though not a military-related death)--I was 9
at the time--and the other served in multiple tours in Iraq during
Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Iraqi Freedom, all as an OH-58D
pilot. Because of that, my dad asked me to not enlist, and I
respected his wishes.
He served two tours during Vietnam and then finished his service as a Drill Sergeant. I never really asked my dad to share stories of his tours of duty--he told me there was very little positive that he could remember of it. In fact, he said it was hands down the worst moments of his life until my brother died. The one story he did tell me, I would not wish on any human being to witness.
So while I haven't personally served, I have a deep respect for veterans--having three in my immediate family--and want to thank all of you for making this post possible by protecting our freedom. It's a shame Veterans Day is only one day of the year; it should be all 365.
