'winners' the 8000 gold each that first place was to receive. Then
hold the 'playoffs' to get a solution that 'feels right' and award
prizes accordingly. If the current winners get first place, there's
no harm done. If they don't (especially if its because their team
can't make the new, last minute timings due to work or other real
life concerns etc) then they aren't disadvantaged by the sudden
change of rules. At worse, it simply 'costs' wargaming a few
thousand gold - something that doesn't actually cost them anything
to make anyway.
A question though - what are your plans if the same situation
happens again - namely when one team progresses and the other two
teams draw? Perhaps for probity purposes it might be worth posting
up the rules etc prior to the round commencing this time.
GeneralDirection: In this particular case, we'll probably go with RedWolfz0r's
suggestion of just letting them play until someone has 3 wins. Or
at least setting the max number of battles to an amount that allows
for a reasonable number of draws.
