What happened to GPU prices?

DomoSapien: IMO it's a combination of scarcity and substantially increased demand + recent GPUs having far better specs and value than previous gen which generally were agreed to have bad value for performance.

I've been in the market for a new GPU since march of last year, because my Titan X was starting to show its age. Ended up caving and getting a whole prebuilt from Newegg because it was the only way I could get my hands on a 3080

Granted, my 6700K arguably needed an upgrade as well because it'd bottleneck the 3080 but if I had the option to buy a 3080 without getting the PC I would've been far happier paying MSRP for it.

IIRC, Nvidia has stated that there should be a substantial increase in volume by q3 and q4 of this year so fingers crossed
