Not quite clear what can get you banned. But i would love to turn off the chat alltogether, with all the "attention" to this and that.

Both, actually. There are strict no-no words but we also consider an excessive amount of 'standard' profanity if it goes over a particular threshold within a certain period of time. (I'm being intentionally vague because I don't want to reveal too much information that nefarious people might use for nefarious purposes like towing the line and skirting the rules.)
If someone is being a nasty jerk but selectively choosing their words so as not to trigger any profanity filters, those types of offenses are best reported to Customer Support via a ticket with a replay or relevant screenshots - since those will be seen in their original context by an actual person reviewing the ticket.
