Cheaters: Claus is right again

Дата: 05.06.2020 22:32:37
DomoSapien: I love Claus and I love his content. He never fails to get a laugh out of me with his funny videos and he's a great dude to work with.

That said, we have no interest in censoring our Community Contributors or their content - but as a player of almost 8 years and a staffer going on 5, I can't help but disagree with some of the points he's making here.

There are people out there who actively participate in creating game modifications, cheats, hacks, or "illegal game modifications" as we call them. This is true for World of Tanks, it's true for World of Warships, it's true for CS:GO, for Overwatch, for PUBG, for League of Legends, for DoTA2... virtually every competitive game out there will provide an environment or 'challenge' for aspiring coders to 'beat,' or 'crack.' Be it a point of pride, or the intent to make financial profit, cheating is a biproduct of a competitive environment, as there will always be those who are trying to get a leg-up on the competition.

Regardless of whether or not we encourage the use of game mods, these people will continue to exist. As they do in other games that do not encourage the use of illegal game mods.

One of the key differences with WoT is, in my humble opinion, (and it's kind of part of the beauty of the game, if you ask me) the vast majority of illegal game mods I've seen for WoT are an extremely poor substitute for game knowledge and skill. I've seen examples of players blatantly using illegal mods and still getting completely obliterated by the enemy. Partly due to the fact that there are 15 variables to account for on the enemy team, 14 variables to account for on your own team, RNG for dispersion and penetration mechanics, and a ton of different vehicles with a ton of different characteristics. If someone comes up with an illegal mod that successfully analyzes the team rosters, predicts allied and enemy deployment, drives shoots & plays for you... I'll be impressed :)

THAT SAID, HOWEVER: Our Fair Play policy is strict, but we do allow the 7-day ban for the first strike before it's escalated to a permanent ban, because there are players who might unknowingly install an illegal mod or share their account with someone who might have nefarious intent (don't share your account! if someone runs illegal mods on your account YOU are responsible!)
Additionally, we do our best to only apply these sanctions when we have conclusive evidence. It needs to be clear that illegal mods were being used before we are able to issue sanctions, and we also like to monitor player activity over time to confirm that it's not a false positive. After all, wrongfully getting banned for something you didn't do and losing literal years of progress would be absolutely devastating.

That said, I see some emotions running high - I understand that this is a subject that many players are passionate about but please keep things civil and follow the forum rules.

EDIT: also it's worth mentioning that we are all guilty of getting outplayed and claiming hacks at one point in our lives or another. Don't hesitate to be cool about it, PM the person you think is hacking and ask them to share their replay of the battle. In playing CS:GO I wrongfully accused more players of hacking than I have in my whole lifetime.

EDIT 2: Dang, I really use "that said" a lot. Anybody have any good synonyms I could incorporate into my vernacular? :P
