You are saying that if we have good turnout with these less good prizes, that will encourage WG to bump up the prizes again? If people are willing to participate in the event for less prizing, why would they bump it up? The logic here states that with less prizing you'll have less participation, and that to get more people interested you should give more/better prizes. If you give people $5 for showing up and then you give them $4 for showing up instead, if MORE people show up for $4, why would that incentivize the organizers to bump it back up to $5 for showing up? I'm not complaining about the prizes this time around, but let's at least state the facts and use logic properly with regards to future events.     For your 2nd point-- just so I'm understanding this, on the last day of the event the last CC will post a code at some point in the day and you must enter the code THAT DAY and then play a bunch of games AND WIN (for the bonus) THAT DAY to get the final reward? Because the missions deactivate the following day? So you could be cranking away all month and then have to take a day off for personal stuff for a couple hours on the last day of the month and get hosed out of the final prizing? This seems like a massive oversight and it really flies in the face of the whole event IMO. If events have to be finished up by the end of the month, then you should publish the last code on the 26th and give people the following 3-4 days to get their 5x games in, or give a bunch of bonus codes like previous scavenger hunts because the time crunch at the end is just a recipe for frustration. I feel like this feedback has been given previously, and yet here we are still talking about the same issues with the same event. How many times are we going to do this before you guys figure out how to run this in a way that isn't annoying?

DomoSapien:
To your first point, you're operating under the assumption that volume of participants is the only metric being looked at. It isn't, the behavior of the players that participate, during and after the event, is also being looked at. If giving more prizing results in more engaged players, we can justify giving more prizing. You're also assuming that the design of this event is insulated from all other events and goings-on. It's not independent of other activities, and I can't force the event through and make it rain with an astronomical number of boosters if it's going to negatively impact events that others are also working on. In theory, more people participating in of itself isn't necessarily a good thing, because it's a larger volume of prizing going out. What defines the success in my opinion is whether or not engaging with the CC Content being promoted via this event results in you engaging with the game and community more overall.

As for the final reward, that's why I'm referring to it as a bonus. The 40K XP is the main reward, as it was with previous Scavenger Hunts, and this was the feature of Scavenger Hunt that received the largest volume of positive feedback. In this case, yes, it was an oversight on my part - we'll definitely look into the possibility of giving out some extra codes to give folks a few extra days but any time we do that we pollute the data and, without going too much into our internal workings - I was initially under the impression that players who participate in scavenger hunt are more engaged as a result (without considering the fact that more-engaged players in general are those who are most likely to be most-engaged with Scavenger Hunt.)

But the tl;dr is 'yes, if you want to get the x5 you will have to enter a code and play battles on the 30th." Honestly I'm just happy to have a Scavenger Hunt event for my CC's in some capacity. I haven't had a whole lot for them to participate in lately, so I will gladly take what I can get :)
