Personally, I've always enjoyed building my own PC. Tends to be a bit more cost-effective than pre-built machines, but of course some manufacturers have excellent warranty options, and you save several hours of labor on the assembly process.
I find it therapeutic, so I enjoy building PC's for friends. I always recommend checking out logicalincrements.com because they catalogue a bunch of different 'example builds' you can come up with in a variety of options and budgets. You might be able to go with some of their recommendations while picking and choosing some options from the Newegg promo as well.
