pound for pound, it is the worst gun in the game.8.8cm L/56: Tier 7 - First available at tier 6 - 220hp / 132 pen AP, 270hp / 44 pen HE - RoF 10r/m tanks 11-12.5r/m td - accuracy 0.36 tanks 0.34 td - aiming time 2s tank 1.5s td

The short 88 wins a single solitary category, rate of fire - but this is an entirely pointless victory, because the penetration is so outrageously deficient that it means you simple end up with more bounced shots per minute.
It can't even be argued that the gun has more damage or a greater HE capacity than the 7.5cm, because it finishes last in those categories too.
This gun is so deficient that it makes playing a number of tanks, most notably the 3002 (DB) and Jagdpanther, the most painful grind in the game. With no capacity to reliably damage even their own tier, you're left to rely on getting more low tier games than high, something a tier 7 lie the DB generally never gets.
What this gun desperately needs is much increased penetration, even if it comes at the expense of damage per shell. Simply increasing the rof or accuracy of the gun - short of giving it Konisch levels of super accuracy to hit small weak spots at proper ranges - do nothing but make the problem even worse.
ARGO: Question, Is your crew at 100%? I had same issue with my 88mm until
my crew was maxed.
