Is It A Tank Game Or Halo?

Tanitha: The tanks have many many hit locations.
Such as this diagram. Each section is a different thickness, and angle, so penetration is calculated depending on the section you hit.
Penetration is determined by physics, such as Armour, angle, etc..

There is also weak spots on tanks, like machine gun ports etc..
Similarly inside the tank there is locations of the critical parts like engine, ammo racks, etc.
These have separate HP's which when they get down to below half, they display as injured, when they are fully destroyed they are red and broken, (until repaired).
Tracks are also getting split into three sections, each with their own hotboxes and hit-points.

I'm not a dev, so i dont know all the internal working of WOT, and I'm not a tank buff so i dont know all the internal workings of tanks.
But I'm sure there is a lot more to wot that you realize. There isn't just one hit box, as you describe above, like I think you assume there is
This is outlined above in some of the specs I linked.
But like has been mentioned above, a shot either penetrates a tank, or it doesn't. Penetration usually results in a dead tank in real life.
But here tanks have hitpoints so they can often last more than one shot.
