The MK7 and the MK8 Turrets were different. As you can see by this handy article which I wrote and Mr Cutland reviewed. The two turrets do look similar, if you don't know what you're looking for. The biggest difference is the flat roof, and I believe a slightly different shape.
So with that in mind, surely it'd make sense to have the MK7 Turret stock and the MK8 Turret as the upgrade? Maybe the MK8 Turret gives more hit points or other soft facotrs, and can mount a different variety of guns. Over the MK7.
On the MK1 The issue I have is if you stick a MK3 turret on top, with a 6Pdr, its still the MK1 Chassis, which makes it look wrong and historically incorrect. I'd also question the use of the 3" on the MKI tank, as that was only supplied with HE, No AP or any other type of shell.
So in my opinion/Little world:
Tier 4 premium: Uses current MK1 Hull and turret with 2Pdr gun (with some major weak spots for balance. Such as the radiators and the turret front's multiple openings). This also makes WG.net some cash.
Tier 5: MK3 style hull. With MK3 and MK4 turrets. All the main guns are totally interchangeable. I have seen a MK3 with a 75mm gun fitted. Research the 75mm gun to get to the MK7.
Tie6: MK7 turret stock, with MK8 Turret upgrade that can mount the top guns for the chassis.
Sorry, I just love the Churchill, and to use Brits its as Iconic as theT34 is to the Russians, or the colt 45 is to the US. And to see it so horribly bashed together when it appears to fit just fine using historical configurations does get up my nose slightly. ;)
