Your answer above wouldn't surprise me if we were talking about option 2 (it's obvious that a well-coordinated group of 5 tanks would tip a balance in random game), but I was under the impression that superplatoons were being developed as a wholly separate, new game mode - and the reason for that was precisely because it would be possible (thanks to some restrictions being put in place etc.) to ensure some kind of balance that way.

Overlord: For now we have abandoned the idea of adding platoons of five in
any form and will fully concentrate on the new games modes. As
initial testing showed the planned mods (Escort) require some
serious rework.
