It happens many times in the German tree, with the StuG III and PzIV, then again with the JagdPanzer IV and Tiger tanks, and again with the Ferdinand and VK4502(P) Ausf.B...
The only difference between a PaK and a KwK version of the gun is percussion and electric detonator, so it is the same gun but to get it for German tanks you must research both at full research cost!
The same does not happen in USSR tree for the tank gun and TD version of the 152mm gun.
Are the developers aware of the difference between the guns? some times it makes me wonder on the expert status of your expert researchers (((

Overlord: The guns are different in-game and that's enough, regardless of the
fact that tank and TD versions are practically identical. This is
made for balancing purposes.
