WoT is going in completely wrong direction

View PostcaptainInsano, on 03 September 2011 - 12:07 PM, said: I really really don't get this at all. To start with, why implement a chinese tank at all? Chinas part in WW2 was less than small, they got invaded by Japan in the 30's and not much happened during WW2. Chinas part in WW2 is meager to say the least. When it comes to Chinese manufacturing im no expert on the issue, but im quite sure that the Chinese didn't have any own designs at all. Most equipment they had were early 30's imports from Germany and Britain.
A quick google result showed that US sent 36 M3A1 scouts (note that this is NOT the M3 Stuart that the US line has in WoT, its an armored CAR nothing else) as a lend-lease action. In 1944 a Tank Group consisting of lend-lease M4A4 (version after E8), M3 Stuarts and some Bren Carriers (Which are APCs not tanks btw) went into action in Burma.
That's more or less all that it is to it. So why then even bother to implement China into the game? It makes no sense at all! Especially not when you have to relate on designs made almost 15 years after WW2 to implement chinese designs. Fine if you want to expand the russian tree, but there are shitloads of other vehicles from nations that actually played a part and had their own designs.
The downside is that most other nations with own designs are axis vehicles. It would be so much more suitable to implement vehicles from the following nations instead:
* Britain (there are still shitloads of VERY common british WW2 tanks that isn't in the game)
* Italy
* France
* Japan
* Czechoslovakia
* Poland
(even Sweden had own designs, ie. Strv m/42. But then sweden was a "neutral" country)
Fine, most designs were crap imho but at least they had several outfits. China had none, and even the Type 59 was a russian T-54/55 re-design. Honestly, the game is starting to get more and more weird. The game-info clearly states "Throw yourself into the epic tank battles of World War II". I understand that WoT has to handle gamebalance as they implement new vehicles...BUT...Why not focus on actual tanks instead of implementing after-WW2 tanks? It started with T-54, IS-4 (which at least were designed during ww2, although wasn't manufactured until afterwards) and the IS-7 (clearly after WW2). Then it started to go downhill...fast!
Why oh why implement vehicles that wasn't manufactured until '50s-60's? The M46 Patton wasn't in production until 1950 but even worse...For crying out loud, the M103 was made in 1957(!) and was active until mid 80's. Now they decide to go even further and throws in the Type 59 which came as late as 1958.
Please listen to me, i honestly think you are driving this game too far. The concept is about WW2, you are now going far far away from that concept rapidly. I do NOT understand why you decide to implement heavier and heavier tanks. Just to be able to do that you have to get tanks that came 10-15 years AFTER ww2. Why even bother? You are honestly looking at it from the wrong point-of-view. Why not go from the OTHER way around, i mean there are so many tanks from the WW2 era. Wouldn't it be better to implement those actual designs. Fine, most are early ones but still there are lots of them. I don't see why you need to expand the tech-trees further up, after all there are several ACTUAL tanks that still can be implemented.
Just think about it, i'll give you just ONE example:
Britain
* Cruiser Mk IVA, light tank
* Crusader, medium tank
* Cromwell, medium tank
* Comet (A34), medium tank
* Challenger, medium tank
* Centurion w. 20 pounder, MBT
* Matilda, light tank
* Valentine, medium tank
* Churchill, medium/heavy tank
* Archer, tank destroyer
* Tortoise, tank destroyer/Heavy tank
All vehicles above would fit the game dead-on. These all fit from low- to high tiers with ease. Ie. MkIV tier 1-2 and all the way to Centurion in tier 9-10 (hard to balance due to in-game inaccuracy based on realism). As i said, this is just ONE country mentioned.
I could probably list 20 other vehicles with ease from various countries. So why the hell don't WG focus on actual WW2 tanks instead of vehicles that are either pure paper-prototypes or tanks that were made 10-15 years AFTER the war? There were shitloads of vehicles made between 1930's up 'til 1945. WG, please don't lose your grip on reality and the WW2 factor. Don't make it fiction/completely unrealistic...please! As i said, the tech-tree doesn't have to expand upwards it could be expanded from below instead...

Overlord: Your conclusions are actually going in the wrong direction, my friend. :) First of, French, British, Japanese, Italian, Swedish etc tanks are already planned. Each nation of the above will either have a full tree or a line of tanks.
As for the Chinese tank we are going to implement, it is done on demand of our Chinese partners. We have got a separate server in China, which is, by the way, second to the Russian one in terms of players. So it's natural that we fulfilled this tiny request.
The trend is still the same, French are coming in Q4 2011, British - in Q2 2012.
