Statistics - Do they matter?

I always found stats a great way to track personal progress. Want to do better in your fave tank? Well remember your average damage and try to beat it every game. If a month later you have upped your average damage in that tank without making any others get worse, then you're improving and it's going well! We are all along a curve, some peoples gradients are different to others, some people have different starting points. Main thing is to enjoy yourself, if you enjoy it when you win more, then there is your reason to improve
So personally I'd recommend sticking with your most played account
