I've only been in the game about 9 months so I don't ever remember it happening.   I've lost count of the number of times I've heard people say, "Oh yeah, we got that as a gift* tank a few years back".   *gift or marathon or prize for easy mission.  Examples I can think of (in addition to the Type 62), Tog II, Dicker Max.
