I don't think it was fuel. A 6 pdr round from one of the Churchill's jammed the turret ring, the evidence of which can still be seen on the tank today. Amazingly lucky shot and also lucky the crew didn't use the explosive charges to prevent it's capture by the enemy. Tiger crews had standing orders to destroy their tanks to prevent capture.

Ectar:   Indeed, from speaking to the people at Bovington they reckon the fact the turret was jammed rattled the crew who until then thought that the Tiger's were invincible and thus they abandoned it.  You can still clearly see the damage from the 6 pounder on the tank.  When it came back to the UK it was disassembled and then reassembled. It's amazing that it's still running today.   I've been standing on the top of it when it was stationary (We had an all star pass for Tiger Day 2013) and also been standing beside it when it is running. It's an awesome sight and sound.
