Ectar: It could be 8.a then 8.ab, then 8.abb  (omg! why not 8.abc! That's how the alphabet works!)     It's simply a number of an update.  Our devs could call it update 8.banana if they wanted and it wouldn't make a difference. The update numbers relate to the content that comes with it and sometimes it has to be spread over different patches so a new number is used.  It's not like if you add 8.9 and 8.8 you get update 17.7    You're looking at the numbers too specifically/mathematically.  They represent a patch version. That's all.
